View Full Version : South Australian Properties
Hi guys just got a bow from a friend, a Fred Bear Buckmaster G2 and wanted to get started in bowhunting. I am from South Australia and just wondering if anyone knows of available properties and how i could get in touch with the owner.
Thanks guys
What do you want to hunt?
There are rabbits around everywhere.
Get out of town a bit (the hills, Barossa or any pastoral country etc.) for foxes.
Head for the Flinders (or up our way) for goats.
The only pigs are up into N.S.W (or almost that far) along the Murray.
P.M. me if you want to come up my way, it is 2 and a half hours, but we might be able to find something.

For deer, you are looking at the South-East. There are hunting properties down there where you can pay to hunt, or you just have to do your homework and find someone who will let you on to their property.

just wanted to hunt anything really. Rabbits, foxes, goats, deer possibly. My bro in law has a crossbow and a couple of rifles but i'll be using my compound bow.
just wondering if anyone can give me names or numbers of properties in the south australian area. This would be very much appreciated.
Mate,
no offense but no one here really knows you at all so you'll be very lucky to get property access this way.
I'm not saying you're a bad bloke but one thing you'll learn very quickly is that bowhunters are very protective of the properties they hunt, mostly due to the difficulty we have in obtaining access for ourselves.
For someone to "hand" you permission to go to a place they are allowed onto when they have no idea who you are or how you conduct yourself (ethics, morals, integrity etc) is not going to be very likely.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to go out, spend a weekend perhaps, driving around the areas you'd think you want to go hunting in and do some door knocking.
You never know what you might turn up.
Just thought I'd let you know why you'll likely not get many replies to this thread.
cheers mate and good luck to ya, it's something you'll be striving for your entire bowhunting life - more property access ;)
cheers,
Luke :D
Yeah mate,
Luke is spot on.
I just secured a spot that i can only use after Christmas and i am stoked. The proviso from the property owner is that i bring no one else, and tell no one else where it is, as they tend to get poached.
If you do manage to get a place, take care of it. Most guys on here would have a rule that if they took you to one of their spots, you NEVER go back there without them, as it is THEIR spot.
After you have done the work you will have your own spots and you will protect them the same way. The more proerty owners see you are treating their properties (and animals) with respect, the more we give bowhunting a good name.
It know it all sounds a bit unfriendly, but you will find guys who offer to take you out with them. If you get to hunt a property, i have found that often you will be the only hunters they want on there. Then if something goes wrong, they know you weren't there, they know it couldn't have been you. If it goes wrong while you're there, they know whose bum to kick  .
Find out the range of the animals you are after, then start knocking on doors dressed respectably and pushing the "conservationist", "feral pest eradication" angle.
Good luck,
Puk.
Mate, I spent 16 hours in the saddle a little while ago driving around an area door knocking looking for access. Admittedly I had help from a fellow member on here, he told me what area to look into and the rest was up to me, and I'm greatful as to him. Back on track, after 16 hours I had secured access to four properties, two small ones, one that the owner told me I was to be the only one to come out, main problem with this property is he breeds goats :? and the last one looks like an absolute pearler with permission to use the shearing quarters when ever down there. Just be polite, dress tidy and dont try to BS them, bushies are switched on people. Good luck
Great to hear Spider!
I hope they turn out to be gold mines for ya :D

Thanks a bunch for you honesty guys, i didn't think of it that way. I'll see if i can get out soon to start searching. If i find any good properties i'll be in touch.
Thanks again fellas

The worst they can do is say no mate....(or shoot you but hey, this hasn't happened to anyone I know yet ;))
Good luck mate
Luke :D
I have spent nearly 3 months driving around doorknocking, leaving letters etc, etc with no real luck at all...
It is bloody hard going, so don't hold your breath, heaps of people don't even want to know you
with no real luck at all...
Does this mean you have had some luck?
:D
None of my own properties. I have met a guy who has a place to hunt, but obviously that is only a go-er when he is going out there
:D

Yeah and how much home work did you do mate? 8)
Pete, plagiarism is still home-work! Besides, you would be amazed at the people who will let a minister on to their property. They seem to think we are trustworthy for some reason!!!

Good stuff mate, you really having a good year hey, first record goat, and nice fox now on to the really challenging stuff, deer!
You will be one very skilled hunter by the time you have put in the hard yards on the deer, but I’m sure you will do well.
