View Full Version : Group Hunt?
The main holdup on a group hunt has been inviting unknown people onto your hunting patch and being shafted at a later date(as happened to Adam).
Now we have access to public land, who would be interested in a get together on public land?
What's your thoughts?

I think it makes the idea of a group hunt a lot less complicated so to speak, not having to worry about a property you have been given access to being exploited because you're nice enough to organise a group hunt. However it also means you must have your r licence. But i reckon its a beaut idea.
Cheers Paul
Yeah, great idea. Hope it works out.

Great idea Wellsy :D
Of course all would have to have an R licence, and someone would have to find if the GC has facility in the booking system yet for a group booking.
I helped organise one last year for Ozbow and we held it in a Victorian SF. We all could hunt without permits as long as we weren't looking for deer, and those that wanted to hunt deer just paid the $42 bucks and bought a permit.
Well who's keen to go.
You will need a R license from the game council.
We need to work out numbers so we can pick a forest as they vary from 5 to 10 for bow only and 30+ for mixed hunters.
If your interested we need to get in early with a date and go from there.
What do you reckon?

Is there a bowhunting only forest central to the guys that would want to go?
I will put my hand up, you know I am always keen for a hunt. My problem is I don't get my "R" licence till the end of July :)
I would be keen Wellsy :)
Canobolas SF near Orange is 8341 hectares and can take 10 hunters.
Wee Jasper near Tumut 11624 hectares, 14 hunters
Orara West near Coffs Harbour 4808 hectares 10 hunters
Awaba near Newcastle 3909 hectares 6 hunters.
These are bow only forests, there are others but numbers are limted to below 4.
If we have interest from more then 10 maybe we could lok at going to a mixed forest such as Putty which can take 32 hunters.
Wellsy
I'm keen I have an R license.
I'm keen but depends on dates...I don't get back from Darwin until the end of July...
How about we get a date for August?
Will give those that are keen to get a R License arranged.

Sounds good to me.
Although I am happy to travel quite a way to go for the hunt I am putting my hand up for it to be in Wee Jasper SF. I know that forest and have taken plenty of good pigs out of it in years past.
If you think Wee Jasper is OK, lets pencil it in :D
What dates suit

I think I would be fine with whatever date was available :)

I just had a look at it Peter, some of the best country is excluded.
The same with next door at Micalong.
It is a shame too, I know there are goats to be had at the top end of Nottingham station and I know some drainages that could very well hold sambar (they have been spotted not far from there) but they are cut out too.
On the plus side I see you still have access to (secret men’s business) swamp and to the (secret men’s business) creek area, both which have pigs in them. The second one is known to tracker, he posted pics of some pig digging there on the site last year.
It might be worth going for a drive out there for a look soon to see what is available.

I am not surprised about Micalong, all the good bits are excluded. All the best country is between Micalong road and the swamp and it all appears to be under permanent exclusion. Sort of makes you wonder why that forest was opened in the first place.
It doesn't help also that a while back the best sambar country was given to NPWS
When you book a forest do you get access to a better PDF map than the one they have for downloading on the "Forests open for hunting" page?
I just need to be able to read the bloody eastings and northings and I can georeference them for use in Oziexplorer.

I was just looking at the Bondo map, and although it is an open to all forest there are huge areas were the doggers wont go.
Is it possible to book 2 adjoining areas at the same time so you have freedom of movement between the two?

I'm not sure Jindy I'm very new to this setup also.
Jindy, you can only book one area for up to 3 hunters at any one time, and unitil the GC gets your return form you can't book another area.
Peter, where did you obtain the may list with taken and seen game?
Wellsy

I got a list on new forests to open and already forests that are open (may issue) from the GC when I sat my R-License.
Peter M, mate had my R licence for a few months with my logon code, but I can't seem to find that list you refer to. Where did you locate it ?? :D

Here are some maps of the wee jasper forest and the areas we are allowed to hunt.
The dark areas are exclusion zones and may change, but I can only go on the maps provided by the GC.
Bondo isn’t “bows only” but I put it in because it is between the other two, and because I know a lot of it and I know pigs and deer can be taken in it.

It is much the same as your DOC licence Jeff. Only here we have to do a test and be a member of an approved hunting organisation.
And we don't get free access to anywhere either, we have to book the forest we want to hunt in before we go.
