As of the 9th of June some State forests around my usual hunting grounds will be opened for hunting for those with a NSW Game Councils R licence.

I am considering getting a R licence but I am having difficulty understanding what I need to do. I have read the information on the GC website and it's as clear as mud to me. :?

I am not a member of ABA and I live in Brisbane. Are the ABA currently the only GC approved organisation conducting the training/testing to allow bowhunters to receive the R licence in QLD?

I don't particularly want to join the ABA can I join the Australian Deer Association which is a GC approved organisation and then either gain accreditation with the NSW Hunter Education Handbook or if needs be through the ABA bowhunter profficiency course ( without joining ABA)?

Its all very confusing to me at the moment and I am hoping that someone will be able to clear things up for me.

You can join the ADA and when you have completed their hunter education course you can apply for a "R" permit.

Ok, so what if a hunter has an ABA BHP cert but is not a current member?

Is this sufficient, as the proof is there that he has been deemed proficient under the ABA (having passed the education course/exam and the shooting proficiency test)... esp given there is no expiry date on the BHP cert?

cheers,

LUke :D

Will that cover me hunting with a bow Jindy? The reason why I ask is that beside their name in the AO section on the GC's website they only have the rifle category.

So what is the NSW Hunter Education Handbook for?

Is it for hunters who belong to an Approved Organisation that does not conduct their own education course?

Maybe Trophy Takers is an option for me?

Peter do TTs run their own hunter education course and if they do, how would I go about doing it up here in Brisbane?

You must be a current member of an approved hunting organisation. What accreditation you hold doesn’t matter as long as it is on the list, so you could join any AHO and use your ABA proficiency certificate as proof of prior knowledge.

Paul
You would have to get in contact with the ADA branch on that page I linked to. They don’t have Bowhunting accreditation in their Hunter education course but they might get the relevant part of the GC test for you so you can do that and then you would have both rifle and bow. It is only 10 questions and most hunters wouldn’t even have to study for it.

Paul you would be better to email Mark as I don’t know much about the requirements as such as I’m busy doing other things for TT at the moment and Mark is the best to answer all your questions, as it has only just come though.

Paul,
on the link to the the QLD ADA that jindy gave earlier if you contact Adrian he will be able to help you with the tests. The NSW hunter Education Handbook is for Approved Hunting organisations that do not conduct their own approved hunting education course. The QLD ADA course is only approved for firearms not bows. The HEH has a section on bowhunting
The guys in the ADA will be able to run you throught the process and the testing procedure.

If you join an approved group you can do an open book test which means you turn up,get the questions and the book, sit down and answer them and anything you don't know you look up.Takes about 15 minutes...Fill out the forms and you have it back within a week....or I did anyway...
Pete..I thought you can only join TT once you have a verified kill????
