I will shoot out to 20 yards, I practice to 40 yards, I have never shot a whitetail deer (the only big game I hunt) past 15 yards I get in close.
Last season I had many deer within 5 yards.. Watch the wind.. I have a small feather on the bow so any air movement shows on the feather.
It is attached to the string with non waxed dental floss..
I shoot more than 15 metres and most of my shots are taken under 10 metres...Glenn...
2-30 metres for me. Average would be about 20.

I like to get to within 20 mtrs' if I can and rarely shoot at anything further. The closest I have shot is a billy that I ambushed and the only cover I had was right next to the track and I had to stand and step back to let the arrow get out of the bow. :D
Know the habits of you prey and the long shots can be avoided.

ive only ever shot rabbits hares and foxes, but if it was a sambar or fallow im hoping to get this winter, i wouldnt shoot beyond 30-35 metres.
ive shot rabbits out to 50mtrs and shot a fox at about 40, but i wouldnt risk a longer shot on a bigger game animal.
its far more fun stalking in close on them anyway. :D

yea gettin close is the best part of bowhunting :D
I have no dramas at taking shots at game out to 50 metres - of course i try and get as close as i can, but in some situations i'm happy to take a long shot. I guess most of my shots would be in the 15-30 metre range.

Close as I can but usually between 20-30mtrs.
After practising at longer distances I would take a shot at 50mtrs, in perfect conditions.
Hey!
Deer I shoot out too and have shot at 50m, but the average for us on deer is 35 to 40 and all the easy stuff it 20 to 30m
See ya Pete.
Yeah, I'm similar to Pete, 35 to 45 for deer (though I did shoot a rusa stag from 8m last year), and probably 15 to 25 for pigs, goats etc.
closest was a pig at my feet and the furtherest was 35m on a chital stag.
