Ok guys do any of you use hearing aids when hunting wether your deaf or not.

I have been half deaf in both ears since birth and am about to get some new digital hearing aids ($4000 worth ouch, and thats cheap as they can go as high as 15-20 grand for them)
So I'd like to know if any of you have them and what sort of problems if any you have while hunting with them.
I have never worn them while hunting before and think that they will help a fair bit in hearing game movement. So I will be on par now with someone that has full hearing.

Hood,

I have been partly deaf from birth also.

Just recently I got a Game Ear hearing device to see if it would make any difference in the bush.

Besides letting me know how quietly I move through the bush, it really isn't much benefit.

When hunting Falow Deer in dense bush the hearing devices would definately be an advantage because they are always calling to each other, with the devices letting you know when you are about to get busted.

I think when hunting Sambar, because they like the dense scrub, they may be very useful.

My wife uses one of those digital hearing aids and they are awesome.
We paid like $4000 for it and my wife considers it money well spent.
You can program it to only amplify the Freq' that you need and not the stuff you don't.

Go for it bloke, you won't look back.

I have two deaf brothers both who have digital hearing aids.

My older brother until a month ago has been without hearing aids for 15 years as he just couldnt afford them (his are worth about 20k for a pair). Luckily someone at his new job knew how to get some government funding as part of the 'job skills' program.

So at long last he actually has some hearing aids. Tells me he really likes them although the hardest part was getting the ear mold right.... very painfull to the ears otherwise.

He has been going back for 'tuning' every week so they can get the frequencies right but says its starting to really help now. Based on what he tells me it seems to give him about a 20% improvement (from almost none anything is a major gain).

Thanks guys.

Jindy/Barry the ones I'm getting are funded by the Gov. as I have a disability card for my back so they fund most of the cost and our health cover covers $700 of it so I am only really out of pocket by $600.
The ones I'm getting have two mics in each so they can pick up sounds from behind you as well as in front. I will be able to turn the rear mics off if need be when in a room with heaps of people talking so I can concerntrait on the conversation I am having. The volume is self adjusting depending on the surroundings based on a "normal" persons hearing levels. I will have to go back every week or two for a while until we get the settings right but as you said Baz it will be well worth the hassle in the end.

so I'll hear ya's later
