After spending 3 days hunting in the rain last week I got out my bow today to have a few shots and every grub screw and nut, actually anything that is not alloy has some rust on it...what does everyone else do to combat this????

If your bow gets wet mate, some wd 40 does the trick...a small :!: squirt on each bit you don't want to rust...

Or a drop of light oil...

Being careful not to get it on the string of course ;)

Works for me anyways, some may not agree or use something else but it's never given me any grief :D

Luke

BTW it should only be surface rust, a light sand with some steele wool will have it removed and then do the wd 40/oil thing to be sure it doesn't return...

Thanks for the reply Luke...I dried it off as much as I could and didn't give it another thought until I got it out today...I was thinking a touch of Tackle Safe(crc)as you said but I will need to do it quite often to prevent the rust from forming even in a light drizzle....
Regards...Sparra...

I do the same dry off as much as I can spray some wd 40 into a container and use an ear cleaner to dab it onto and metal bits

Good idea, saves the over spray going where you don't want it too...

No worries Sparra ;)

Yep even a light drizzle can cause surface rust :(

There is also a product out there called Lanolin Dry and it purpose is for when some thing gets wet to dry it out and to prevent it from rusting up its in a spray can and is odourless so there is no un pleasent smells or traces to take in the bush next time your out and about i use it on my fly fishing gear and it works a treat. You can get it from most auto stores.

What I do ! when ya waxing that string after hunting  Just wipe a little extra wax over the screws and washers that rust after drying as best as ya can. ( If no compressor buy a can of Air used for cleaning computers)

I even fill the hex sockets up with wax stops rust and washes out with a bit of grease and wax remover.

keeps em like new !

Wabbit Hunter is right best thing is Lanolin. There are a few products out there but most are similar and all will do the job you want. They work well for several reasons.
1 They at worst smell like sheep [most game wont worry about it, unlike WD40] or have no smell at all.
2 When it 'sets' it gets a skin that is water proof, WD comes off easy and allows water underneath= rust.
3. Cleans off without heat or nasty chem's, best off if you don't clean it all off anyway then it never exposes metal to moisture. Just clean away what you need to and re-apply when youve finished working on your bow.
