My draw is 28inches so therefore how long should be arrows be. Does it matter if they are 3 or 4 inches longer than my draw length?

Cheers

When you are at full draw you have about one inch of arrow going past your arrow rest.

Type of bow, arrow spine, type of broadhead and arrow rest all come into play with arrow length.

The longer the arrow the stiffer spine needed whereas the shorter arrows can be softer.

Traditional bows need longer arrows to keep broadheads from hitting the shelf/riser and broadheads like the Outbacks, that come back behind the inserts, need a longer arrow again.

If you post your setup and type of arrows you intend to use I can give you a more accurate idea.

As above..if you provide your full bow specs, bow make, cam, weight etc I have a programme that will calculate the ideal arrow set up for you... oops sorry...only if its a compound :D

Are the Gold Tips 3555 or 5570?

The lower number is for the maximum length shaft at that poundage.

For example you could shoot a 32" 3555 arrow out of a 35# bow or shoot a 25" or shorter arrow out of a 55# bow.

At 28" the 3555 would work fine.

This is a general indicator of shaft suitability, but I find most shafts are a bit softer in the spine than quoted so if you were to shoot 30" shafts out of a 48# bow the 5575 might be a better option and also allow a broader range of broadhead options.

jpbon on the assumption your bow is a 05 Buckmaster G2 ? at 48# and 28" draw your shoowing Gold Tip Hunter ( no terminators) at 28" and 5575 shafts with 100 grn points, then those arrows are way to stiff ) over spined) for your set up. The 3355 are better at 30" There are numerous other options so let me know other arrows your interested in and I'll run the figures. Without going through all the options a quick check, and I again assume you want hunting arrows?? it seems that Easton ST 500 @ 29." would be better for you bu the 3355 @ 30" are acceptable, any shorter and they are too stiff. :D

im not sure of the year of my bow but i think its around 04.

i am shooting gold tip terminator shafts. what happens if the arrow is overspined for my setup?

i am very confused about about arrow size as well 1816, 1916 etc. what does this all mean? i have seen some cheap arrows in various shaft sizes and i also have friends who are willing to give me some arrows in different sizes yet again. ohh it's too much choice!! could i shoot various size arrows with my setup? also how are you calculating this johnno cos i would like to do it myself as well to get a better idea.

thanks very much

Same as you good Friar...or it may be the 2.3 version..anyway the latest :D . Jpbon do a google search on "pinwheel" and download the on target 2 software..you get it on a trial basis and when you want to buy it costs about $30.00 AUD ( or thereabouts) There is another similar programme "Archers Choice" but IMO the OT2 is the better. Once you input all you bow details it will determine the most suitable arrow set up and you can also print out a template to adjust your site pins and I found it to be bang on for my setup out to 60m my max pin. Hope this helps :D
