View Full Version : LED lights for sights
Anyone ever use/bother with the led lights you can get for fibre optic sights ? Just after peoples thoughts and opinions. Just won a bid on a new fibre optic sight that can have a led fitted to it.

I dont understand what your talking about. Got a pic buddy?
Are you talking about the light like I have on my Coper John Deadnuts sight?
Bill
I would say thats what he is talking about Bill...i tried one on my trophy ridge sight but I wasn't impressed with it.It was actually one of those chemical lights that you break and they glow...Didn't really make my pins brighter...

How do you go with the timberline Pat...I tried one but just couldn't get the hang of it....It's still getting around to members on the forum to try but I have lost track of who has it now...

sparra good mate..willy r put me onto it..
i set her up ,its handy to have someone next to u to adjust the finer tune for ya at the end..
but i find it good, place ur pin on target, quick look at no peep, its a good form indicator tells if ur toquing..
better in low light compare to a peep...ull get a good extra 10 to 20 mins from her..
suits me as all i do is hunt...a peep may be slightly more accurate for target//

Yes, it is worth having, it runs on 'watch' type batteries.
Yes, the type with the small lithium watch type batteries in them. I don't know off-hand how to attach a pic/image to be honest so showing you is out.
I've not got a peep sight, just the fibre optic sight (3pin). Does a peep help that much ? Have to forgive me but whats the Timberline ?
Thanks again guys, lots of basic stuff for me to learn still

You will need a peep, that fits in your string, as well as the fibre optic sight.

This is the one I use. It has the afterburner light, and IMO its one of the best sights I have ever used.
I will try and get a pic of it up with the light on.

Any questions?
Bill
Wow, the led seems to work a treat. Would be sweet for that real early or late shot in a scrub/forrest where the lights low.
Bill, thanks heaps for doing the pics mate. Sure makes it all stand out even the level, fantastic.
As for the peep sight I think I'll grab one to try as they seem to cost bugger all. Next question is tips on fitting/placing them ?

ull need a bow press,,best to take ur bow with u to a shop.its needs to be set up correctly for u and then served in...
normally procedure is once peep is inserted, hav some one standing beside u..[for safty,u should have an arrow in ur bow and facing a target, but thats up to u...to avoid dry firing]
when u draw, have ur eyes closed and upon opening u should be able to look clearly through ur peep,if not have ur person to the side adjust to where u need it..test a few times then serve in.
if ur bow is correctly setup u can get away with out a tubing model, but u may find it easier to get one of those and if u do,id suggest chasing up luke for some of his special peep tube,,doesnt perish like the others...
best of luck

Thanks for that info Pat, to be honest I thought a peep sight might have been a self-install thing. I may also look at those 'no peep' units as they look and sound good as well. I'm not too keen on the peep tubing as someone told me they got hit in the eye once which would worry me lol. Though maybe they didn't maintain their bow well I don't know.

mate are u into serious 3d or just hunting??
if hunting
personally id grab a no peep...but i think they are about70 bucks here in aus,,check our sponsors or u can get one here.she is good to deal with..
depending on the shop, ull be payion g for them to supply and fit a peep.

now these are only my thoughts,u may get different thoughts from others
but these work for me
cheers pat
I'm a total newbie Pat so I'm not exactly into anything as yet lol. I plan on hunting and shooting targets at a range for fun/practice mostly. If I find a club I like when I can afford it I may join one also but I'm not really interested in competitive shooting. I doubt I'll get to hunt often in reality but that was my original goal.

clubs arnt expensive, normally a small jioning fee around the 20 30 buck,is up this way....a membership to 3daaa or aba, they are a bit steeper...buts its a good way to meet ppl, learn more, even maybe get invited on a hunt once ppl get to know u..
going to clubs is not all about competition, mostly social and meet like minded ppl..when they do havge shoots, like 3daaa and aba its all pretty light,u dont need to feel u have to be a top shot just to go to the comps,,go and have fun..

Thats good to hear as I quite like the idea of sharing with like-minded people and just having some fun. I'd join a club in a heart beat if it was that cheap lol. From what I got when I asked around it was looking like $300-$350 ish.
I'm only a pensioner and buying 2 bows (well 4 bows as we made a bad choice and bought 2 that were'nt what we we're after first) pretty much killed my budget for a few months and then soon as I can afford it I'll have to look at grabbing a few arrows, a jig and what-not.
Lol, I crap bricks every time I shoot atm as I have to make my 5 arrows last hehehe
It's all damn good fun though and pretty exciting for me as it's all new ground.

all the best

I use a Fletcher tru peep and Im most happy with it. Its the only thing I Will use. (Well until I get back home and walk through the shops anyways).
But as pat says there are lots of variations out there. It is just like finding a bow, try everything you can and just pick whats right for you. Which will be a Fletcher Tru peep. :D

I had a little trouble finding the Timberline No-Peep in oz but got one from Timberline direct. Took 6 days and cost $60 delivered. Improved my form straight away as i didn`t realize that occasionally the bow twisted in my hands. The No-Peep has brought my 30m groups in considerably. The No-Peep for me , Thanks Pat.
Thanks folks, I like the look/idea of the 'No peep' but with my current budget I may just try a cheaper peep. I will have a go with several types when I can afford it and will certainly give the no peep a-go also.
Seems the fletch's on my arrows are dying very quickly so I think firstly I'll look at a jig. Lol, time to start a new thread on whats a ok fletching to use hehehe. The ones on the arrows I have now break so easy it's not funny as they are quite brittle. Maybe thats why I got the arrows cheap. Starting to think the main lesson I'm learning of late is that archery can be a costly hobby/sport.

I hate to brake the news me old mate but ya actually got a SHURZ-A-PEEP in ya XT at the moment !
The Fletcher Tru Peep is a Little Diffrent.
But they both are good peeps for the Big Money they cost that is !
I've used the No Peep for a few years now and for hunting nothing stacks up against them.

I bought a No-peep, 3 or 4yrs ago, I used it in conjunction with my peep, to check if I was torqueing my grip, but to use it as a peep, I find it too much to look at, as your eyes have to dart inbetween the pin, bubble and 'No-peep'.

Really? Guess the wife is right. I dont always pay attention no matter what I say. Heck it works for me. Thanks Willy
Bill
Greg, yep I was talking about the blue LED lights, though I think there is a purple light as well. After seeing how well it lights up the pins and level in the pics Bill posted (thanks again Bill) I went and ordered a blue one. Can't wait to get my hands on it all. Still waiting on some other goodies also and then I will be able to go out and play again :D

they are perfect if your hunting first light or last thing, best thing is the game can't see them either.

G'Day Mitcon, sorry to come in so late. I use a Shurz-A-Peep in the magnum size and find it a piece of p*#! to use. It can be installed at home with a VERY blunt butter knife, and has no tubing to get caught up in anything or break. The slight downside of this peep is that you have to split the string into 3rds and at full draw one may encroach into your field of view thru' the peep, easy solution, roll the string with your nose, and get on with shooting. The sight light thing, I've got one on my Trophy Ridge sight and havn't had any call to use it yet, the fiber strands the sight has collect enough light right up until dark, then I loose sight of my target befor the pins  . Going back to the butter knife thing, be very very careful, when you get it in set it up as Pat described. When it comes to fletching I use AAE Elete fletches (soft plastic) and glue them on with AAE Fastset Gel, when they get damaged I have to cut them of my carbons. Have fun, keep learning 8) .
Dale, better late than never mate :D . Haven't been out to look at the peeps as yet, will be a week or maybe 2 so will give the Shurz a looking at also. As for installing it I may even just get the shop to throw it in for me as I think they only charge $5-$10 to do it. I only just got the bow last week so maybe they'll chuck it on free  with some luck.
I think the fletches I ordered are AAE Elete plastics, but the glue is Bohning Fletch-tite Platinum. I hope this is ok stuff to use. It was all part of a package deal, a RH Grayling jig, 200 AAE plastic fletches (100 of each colour), the Fletch-tite platinum glue and a DVD on arrow building.

mate, persoanlly uve got all good gear there...dvd thats agood idea,,,
pat :)
Mitcon I have the fletchtite platinum, works well but not as well as loctit 401,406 but the platinum is a hell of a lot easier to clean off a shaft when re-fletching.
