i took the long bow out yesterday and whistled my first cat in, and missed it (twice  ) then whistled a fox in only to have it bust me while i was coming to full draw. i think some of the reason for missing the cat is i held it at half draw while it was coming in to help minimise movement and i was somewhat tired by the time i took the shot"S" ......up untill now i have only used the compound so i draw while they are a fair way out so they dont see me and follow them in but not posible with the long bow
so i was wondering if i could get some tips for whistling while using trad gear

thanks Ben

mate, i reckon im gonna have the same problem. ive taken all bar one of my foxes with a crossbow, so they dont spot the movement at all. the one i took with the compound was at point blank range. but now im shooting a recurve as well, i reckon its gonna be tricky. the only thing i could suggest would be to back off on the whistle when they get in closer, cause then they slow down and look side to side etc while looking for the source of the noise, which may mean you can draw when they are looking in another direction and still have them in close enpugh for a shot.

Arra, I'm probably stating the obvious but...like most any other shot with a bow if their facing ya or even peripheral vision is possible, you move you're gone. Either need to get into thicker stuff with a shooting "window" & locate yourself so you "channel" the fox so that it has to come the way you want him to, or try getting a few feet off the ground into a tree, this works well, obviously need one you ain't gonna fall out of. Other option is to drag a bait (dead roo or something) towards your "blind" or tree :)

Arra, shoulda added, the idea of the drag, once youv'e done it, you still whistle, but hopefully the fox picks up the drag scent, you see him earlier & can then stop whistling to prepare yourself for the shot :)
