I'm curious to know if anyone on the forum is currently using, or has previously used, short fletches for their hunting setup. By "short" I am referring to 3 inches or less.

If so, have your experiences been positive or negative?

The reason for my interest is that I have noticed that "high profile" but short fletches are being highlighted in articles or advertisements of US bowhunting magazines.

While I'm not entirely convinced I am contemplating experimenting with a shorter setup and would value other opinions/viewpoints.

Look forward to the feedback.

JG,
I am loving the 2 inch blazers through a whisker biscuit.
I have found a new world of accuracy and with it, confidence.
Less cross-wind deflection, less visibility to animals.

My experience has been positive in the extreme.

Guys when using the 2" blazer vanes do you still fletch them with helical or straight fletch and if helical is there any problem getting a decent helical on such a short vane. I also assume your using carbons so what is the preffered jig, Blitz, BPE or other. I have also heard good things about these vanes and keen to give them a go ? Thanks :D

Blazers are very trendy. I had no trouble getting Outback b/'eads to group with field points when tuning using 2" Blazers fletched with a helical clamp. A lot of blokes reckon it's the stiffness of them that makes them more effective than others (especially for Bikkie users.)
Johnno- not sure whether the helical vs offset makes a difference with such a short fletch. I've got a Cartel (not bad) and a Grayling (I don't use it! :x ) If I were rich like Pat Cabela's I buy a Ballroom Blitzenburger (with cheese) tomorrow.

I agree with puk and kim. I fletch mine with right helical to shoot through my WB. I dont know about any problems with fletching them either.

Hi fellows, I have just made a batch of arrows up using 2" blazers x 3 with helical on axis st 400's I played around wiyh my bow tuning it for a couple of days and got it paper shooting perfect with field points. When I put broadheads on (100gn tuskers) my groups went to ****, at 20m my field points were just about touching but my broadheads were not so good. Just wondering do you blokes paper test broadheads? If so do you normally need to make much adjusting from field points to broadheads? Is it possible to get them paper shooting perfect like field points?

personally mate, once u have ur field points shooting well through paper, then using the same broadhead weights as field points and dont forget to take into account the adaptor that goes in the back of those broadheads, and u also have to ensure that ur broadheads are square to the shaft as line up correctly so they will spin nicely.

then i go to the target butt and do small adjustments witht the rest as needed to get them to hit same ponit of impact.

personally the easiest waqy to explain this simple process is for u to go to the easton archery site, checko out the downloads and click onto tuning procedures...it has all the info and simple instructions to help u out. any problems come back and throw some more questions..

Yeh I have a print out of the eastern tuning guide, was thinking it might have been the fletches. Will get down the range and make some adjustments let you's know how I go.

Thanks guys.

To answer your question, Johnno, I'm strongly considering the 2" blazers. However, I've got about a million arrows that are set up with the 4 x4inch fletches. The tight arse in me feels quite conflicted about investing in the amount of blazers needed to re-do the whole lot. Thus, we'll see.

As for SA, I'm settling in well. Although I do miss the MWFA gang.

I was the same. Only reason I went to blazers is the arrows wouldnt fit in my new quiver and willy_r refletched them for me. He didnt ask either he just did it. I really like the blazers better. Thanks willy_r
