Should be a hoot, wish I could be there.
Hope all goes well. :D

keen on that one Clingish.
does it have to be just 'trad' as a couple mates might come along otherwise?
just so long as it's for bowhunters (and not just archery buffs talking about all the targets they've stalked and shafted) i'll endeavour to be there.
good one. :D

Doesn't worry me if people want to come with compounds .I would just like to meet a few more of the members. I will post Details as they come up .
I wish you werent so faraway , I would come as well...Glenn...
Have a good time guys, wish I could make it.
There's not to many of us in wa, we should all get together more often and practise our hunting skills.

gotta tell ya clingish and (on your return dark lord) adam - it's since too late and i've now long sworn (eg with DS who has established salt licks etc(and impending game camera) while dodging redneck live rounds) secrecy about the 'specific' few WA deer patch acres i wander.
however, more than enough local info do i have in exchnge for poaching some archery type tips and i mean 'more' than enough. certainl time between now and next rut for me to start exploring wider afield as well - heaps of deer/pig/goat related advice to follow up.
be great to fianlly catch up one time and exchange some top hunting banter, but i have to come clean on current lack of disclosure... two other mates reliant now and only a tiny patch that doesn't support hunting 'pressure' of any sort really.
i've been hard at it over last week - checking out camo on emus, walking behind pigs heading back into bush just before (about 6.15am at moment in WA) light enough to ethically shoot and trying to creep up on red does in open cover etc. bloody 'thumper' rabbit alarms been going off as well (lotta fun).
anyway, be good to catch up but little 4WD 'car park' place in Perth Hills where i'be been attempting to spring a wild WA deer (without success) with curve i'm now unable to 'specifically' pass on in private. sorry.

That's ok hawkeye i will just secretly plant a homing beacon on your bow whilst we shoot a few rounds with the other WA boy's .

Matey I learnt long time ago that "loose lips sink ships".
A little story... John pierce and myself had been tracking and trying to patent a huge boar in the back mountains of canberra. We'd never laid eyes on the boar but droppings prints and deep rippings keep us keen on him. At this stage in my journey through bowhunting it was the only pig we had accress to. Being generious we invited a new bowhunter one morning for a hunt. The plan was if we seen the boar it would be johns. Cut a short story shorter, teh guy rushed a shot at the boar and chased it, never did we see it again. it didn't really bother me cause thats hunting but little access to animals should be kept to little amounts of hunters   .
Don't sweat it mate, all the best to you and Ds on the deer.

thanks fellas  and just been too long between catching up and finally having sworn stakes on a small stretch of scrub with 2 other like minded stick thrusters.
saying that (again) i've 'heaps' of info to pass on (hopefully follow up myself soon (price petrol/time a killer isn't it)) and keen to share/hunt together asap...
i can now see why the 'rut' is such a big thing with deer hunting and only ever had to 'read' about its significance (eastern states only) until now. bring on next year rut/year now that i know a bit.
and between now and then bring on those pigs/goats/foxes i reckon.

The hoddywell range has 3 courses beginer intermidiate and advanced. there is a cafe and barbeque facility's there as well as toilets and and of course the store itself.Ernie is happy for us to use the range but He was after plenty of notice and an idea of numbers .I am happy to shoot the Gleneagles range as well It was a nice spot with beautiful surroundings.
I think we need a bit of consensus on a few point's.
1) Day of shoot Ie Sat or Sun
2) Date
3) Venue
I would prefer a sunday
Possibly the 6th or the 20th of august
I like the Gleneagles course for it's bush surrounds and it's a bit closer
Lets get an Idea of how everyone else feel's.
Sunday for me and i dont mind where or when.

either sat/sunday fine for me, but have my daughter this coming weekend so alternative/s be the go.
and in which case (be in Hills hunting) Hoddywell would probably be best by me?
however flexible (and ignorant) as never shot at a range and will leave it up to you blokes.

Ok so ar it appears Sunday is the best bet .The Ozbow site is down at the minute so I am unsure of how that fits with a few of the others .

Ok so as it stands most are happy with sunday the 20th of august .
I think hoddywells would be the better option.
We need an Idea of numbers .We can meet at the Servo on toodyay rd so that we can cut down peoples fuel costs .
If you can post that you want to go and let us know if you want a lift or will take your own car we can get a few things organised.

i don't have daughter that weekend Clingish, so unless something untoward happens i'll def'n be there (hoddywell).
good one. :D
ps- sorry but i can't help anyone with a lift, as i'll be popping outta Scarp bush (Bindoon to Bullsbrook area) for the occasion.
pps - great to see 3 WA pig pic's in latest BDU mag eh. :P only disappointment is all taken with heavy metal wheely bows. :(

All are welcome If you are a site member and you have a bow and arrows
It's the first servo on Toodyay RD on the right opposite the winery. If we say 9am .
If you need a lift I am in leeming and I can fit 3 others . I will ring ernie Tomorrow and find out range costs I will tel him 10-15 guy's that should cover it.

31-07-06, 11:16 PM
any access stuff you're thinking of selling bring along as well Clingish. :D
and i'll show ya my home-made yowie suit if lucky.
sounds good and i desperately need to shoot a few arrows and get feedback - bloody back yard in unit doesn't allow me to shoot further than 10m.

I know that ernie has a sighting range set up with distance pegs . So we can do a few comparisons of bows and arrows .I am just looking forward to a conversation with an adult who understands what I am talking about .

02-08-06, 06:05 PM
I spoke to ernie today,
We can have one round of the advanced course for $15
Or for $25 we get a half day pass Which means A round on the intermidiate course Break for lunch ,and then do a round on the advanced course .We will also have access to the sighting range and barbequeing facitities. Also for you lefties in trad Ernie just got 4 Good quality Trad bows Traded in so if you are looking for something it might suit.

02-08-06, 07:22 PM
whatever you reckon i'll go with Clingish and looking forward to it etc.
however, just remember... when i can't shoot straight at 30metres is that i don't shoot at 30m.
i'd like to, but i know my limitations which is governed by how much i practise and the range that i practise at. no bunny has to worry about me beyond that magic 15metre mark (at this stage).
saying that - a bit of tuition from yourself etc will be much appreciated.
Clinglish
02-08-06, 11:58 PM
You are not alone in the tuition part I was hoping some observation from others may help iron out a couple of release issues I am having.
It should be a good day out with around 8-10 people coming so I am looking forward to it.
hawkeye
14-08-06, 10:22 AM
still on Clingish?
be bustin' my guts to get there (other commitments) so i hope so?
if so, any idea how many others (still around 8/10?) and how much cash i'll need for the outing?
again, thanks for efforts to organise and both wheely mates pulled pin so just me and my stickbow.

It's full steam ahead at the moment ,If you pack something to barbeque and a drink then it will only cost $25 for the range fees. I am going to bring most of my gear and all my bows so I am paying for 2 rounds on the range .I am trying to get some timber arras done for the shoot .
Hawkeye I will going, and cant wait to meat you face to face after talking to you on the phone some months ago.
It will be a good day and I cant wait.

unfortunately cant make this one.

if i can't make it i'll be bitterly disappointed as hell looking forward to it.
just scrounging at moment ($) is all (as always) and even $50 (petrol/range etc) is gonna be hard to find - might have to rob servo at Muchea on way up at arrow-point (at least then (when apprehended and make news) you'll know i did my best to get there).
again, goodonya for organising a get-together Clingish and i'll be spewing if stuck in suburbs eating beans for lunch.

15-08-06, 08:06 PM
I can fit a couple of guy's (and their beans) in so if you want a lift Im sure there will be room .Chris will have some space in his car as well I think so it should be fine .

thanks mate and know that, but HAVE to combine day with a Sunday dawn hunt is all. haven't been into deer patch for a few weeks now. just wish i had the cash to score some more target arrows etc from Ernst because i'm scrounging on that front as well.
anawy, just whinging as 99% i'll be there! :D

hope the day went well and be keen to see any pic's.
went to a $120 (old man paid) a head Claremont footy reunion last night and with an open bar it just proved too much of an effort to get outta bed before lunch today.
deepest apologies Clingish, as i appreciate your efforts to organise the event and i just hope enough bod's showed to make it worthwhile.

Well I had a great day ,I met some awesome guy,s who are all very passionate about their sport ,Maylands horn bow was as great to shoot as it was to look at, Kevin had a traditional style English longbow as well as a sword and some armour for us to check out.
John showed deadly form with his mathews , and Nathan was impressive at shooting his 65# recurve .Chris used his hoyt and his new Bowtech ,both with equal skill .I have to say I took out the prize for worst shot , I am sure the pic's won't take long to surface.
We started on the intermidiate course with all shooters making some impressive shot's .After a bit of a bite we split up as a few of us wanted to try the advanced course Whith Mayland and Arcangel returning to the intermidiate course well I would say we were starting to flag a bit towards the end arms were sore and the groups were getting bigger by the target .
On our return to the store we were welcomed by Ben who took the drive out just to say G'Day and show some of his great hunting photos .
All in all a great day and one I hope will be repeated in the not to distant future .My thanks to all those who attended Your company was worth the drive .
Clinglish your killing shot.

yep, looks like i definitely missed out. :(
next occasion i can hopefully provide extra/ample shafts, snaggers, softies, smoke and so forth to attempt to make up for absence.
just proved too much to get there in the end but no excuses - left back in the burbs with thumb up my bum while merry men did their stuff up in the forest for sure.
now 'why' did i ever 'think' you were an 'old' bloke Clingish :?:

One of the shooters left behind a home made quiver. It is like a footy sock with an army belt sewn on to it. If it is yours pm me and I will get it back to you.
Clingish , thats a solid hit mate , your going to want to just hang back a wile and wait for the arrow to take effect , looks like it may only be one lung but if you dont spook it , it will bed down stiffen up (season) and you can build a trophy room out of it , mate no flies on you
