When I have drained as much of the water out as I can I generally stuff a dry tea towel (or two) into the bladder. By shaking it around the towels help to absorb most of the moisture. Then leave it out in the sun, for a short period, with the lid off to evaporate any residual moisture. Works for me :D

I hang mine upside down on the line, with a stick holding the filler open. Leave it a couple hours. (Camelbak)

yes and if you put gatorade in it make sure you get every drop out :( it is amazing how quick the inside of the bladder can grow grass :D

Personally I've never bothered to get it completely dry ... just left the lid off with the bite valve off the tubing and hung in my garage or where ever I've been storing my gear at the time.

Done it like that for a few years now and never been crook 8)

but there is always a first time ;)

Insert disclaimer here

I used mine a couple of weeks back and noticed a lovely greenish haze forming, not in the bladder, but in the drinking tube!!
Can anyone recommend the best way to thoroughly inside the drinking tube?

...I do have a strange twitch every now and then... maybe that has something to do with it? :?

Hefty, as I said, I just pull the valve off the end and let it dry out...never ever had mould grow doing it that way :P

yeah, i'll do that now as a preventative step, but how do i get out what's already there?
(I'd temporarily forgotten about it until i saw this thread and now remembered that i still have to get it out of there  )

I used to remove mine from my bladders and boil them in a pot of water on the stove for a few mins...that'll kill it, not sure about getting it out though :?

A little (diluted) bleach 'll get it out. Dont use to much or you'll taste it forever.

I soak mine in diluted Vinegar from time to time.

Dry it by taking the bite valve out, the cap off and hang it in the sun.

The Vinegar residue really sweetens the water.

Hefty try boiling water in the tube (suck it up in there, not to much you'll burn your mouth) the tube goes soft and pliable rub and squeeze where the green bits are, then just blow em back out, worked a treat for me.

This Is the Method I use which so far has been fool proof.
First off buy a Camelbak cleaning kit apox $35.00.
http://www.picturehosting.com/images/Willy099/cam0084.jpg

It has A collapsible drier to fit inside the bladder and then expands, and a cleaning brush for the bladder and along skinny brush for the drinking tube.

I soak my CB bladder in Milton solution over night after each trip, or if extended trip I take the tabs and soak the Bladder for 15 or min.
It about $6.00 for the Bottle lasts for ever, tabs are 30 of for same kinder price.

This is the list of nasties it kills and leave hardly any taste at all smells a little at first but that's it.
I also add a little lemon juice Squeeze to my water bladder each fill also help the body to keep the fluid in the system longer and hydrates you better.

The Milton tabs can also be used to Sterilize water by one tab per 35ltrs.

Here's the list of "Nasties" the Milton Solutions and Tabs Kills.

flexible wire straightened out put a hook in one end and crimp it with pliers so it will fit inside the tube. thread the non hooked end through the tube carefull not to puncture your bladder(a small bit of tape wrapped around the non hook end will help prevent a punture)rip some steel wool off a scourer and wedge it in the hook until it makes for a tight fit in the tube but still slides through when you pull it. this should sort it out

PS mine are always full in the freezer never dry em out.

I have used a few drops of betadine a liter will sterilize water (it tastes better than chlorine tablets), a bit stronger solution should clean anything left over after using one of the above pull throughs (it can also be used for blisters).

I think the simplest solution is to rinse all the contents out with plain water then bung the bladder in the freezer. I have been doing this for years and have had no problems with green furry bits.

I don't use anything but water in my hydration pack so can't commment of getting the smell or taste of cordial/gatorade etc out.

The best part about putting it in the freezer is that it when you first fill it up the watter is nice and cold for a few hours.

i just fill my bladder up and then throw it in the freezer, then when i head of it's ready to go,when i have finished,i give it a good rinse and throw it back in the freezer. i never fill it completly up and always leave some air in there as water expands(as it freezess) but air will compress(a little) and not burst the bladder :D

youve scared me !!
Ive never done anything to mine. fill it up, drink it, chuck the back pack in the shed still with water still in it till next time. never seen nuthing growing. mines a platipus plastic one rather than rubber ? does the material affect bacteria growth ? mine has no rubbery taste or anything. i use tap water, so its got anti beasty chemicals in it already.

 just a thought , i always make a point of expelling all the air out and suck a vacuum to cut down on the "sloshing" noise when walking around. My tube and bladder are always full of water and no air for stuff to grow in.

Mozza has the right idea mate. Stick some fishing line through then tie on some cotton wool or something like that and pull it back through the hose. Works a treat!
