Bow is a Bowtech Allegiance with 60-70lb limbs and 27.5" draw length.
Need some advice on what everyone thinks is the best allround combination of components to build up some hunting arrows for Rabbits foxes and hopefully the occasional Deer.
What shafts, what Nocks what size and type of Fletchs etc, etc. :?

i recently started building my own hunting shafts and because i can't spend a lot of money i have opted with the Gold Tip Terminators from Archery Mart in Adelaide. CarbonTech shafts and Carbon Express are also quite good. my nocks are gold tip nocks with fletchtite vanes (made by bohning). a lot of hunters are switching to blazer vanes for better broadhead stability though. 125grain outback hunter broadheads is what i use on my 29" arrows. I am still learning in the art of bowhunting and telling you what my set up is but there are plenty of other top blokes who know exactly what they are talking about due to years of experience that would be more than happy to help you.

Robbo,

I use Carbon Tech Whitetails 65/80 at 29" with 4 2" Blazers through a 70lb Mathews Outback. I am currently using 100gn SteelForce broadheads and they fly like darts. I did note when setting up that using Woody's 115gn Supremes flew as straight just lower (obviously). I kept with the 100gn because I already had them here.

Cheers, Dave.

i was looking at getting a dozen whitetails or cheetahs from archery supplies in Canberra. which ones do you prefer Dave?

i know that they are a very durable shaft.

Mate the Cheetas are a target shaft and not durable enough for hunting go the w/tails definatley.

I would go the Whitetails but that is for my bow. When I bought it Kim said it had a fairly hard cam so to go with something stiffer. I can't really comment on the Cheetahs but they are supposed to be bloody fast.

didn't know that they were a target shaft, i knew they were real light however. i guess you'd get better penetration with a heavier shaft anyway.

Mate prob 3d shaft would be a better description but not as good as the w/tails IMHO for hunting.

I have been using the Beman ICS Hunters for a couple of months now and really like them.

All the other shafts mentioned here are also excellent.

In my bows I like to shoot the next spine rated above the recommended for a heavier, tougher shaft.

The Beman ICS 300s, at 29", are very accurate out of my 70# Mathews Outback.

I like three 4" Duravanes with a right offset or right helical. this setup shoots Woodies Outbacks @ 130gr with the same accuracy as field points out to 50 mtrs.

I use Carbon Express Rebels 6075 from mine at 71# Just bought a dozen off Rob at Casino Archery for $74.00 posted. At 11.2 gpi they provide a hunting weight with a 125gr broadhead of about 500grns. I get about 288fps from mine, you would get less due to your shorter draw..but still plenty fast enough for hunting. I've been told that the issue with the nock ends splitting is not associated with the new batches..will wait and see..nevertheless..they are cheap and fine for hunting up to and including pigs!! PS thus far using 4" duravanes, but keen to give the FOBS a go :D

Definately not the Cheetahs. I am using for my personal setup ST Axis at 11.5 gpi and have setup some Cartel Hunters ACC shafts for clients which are around 10.5 gpi and have proved to be durable. I actually like the ACC idea for hunting and once I chew through the ST Axis will probably revert to them.

I am shooting arrows at 580 grains at 270 fps with a FOC of 16.5%.

does speed really matter that much? i am shooting at around 240fps and my arrow weight is only around 390 grains. this seems extremely slow, i thought that i'd shoot a lot faster. my draw is 28" and i am pulling 55#.
