A good source of information can be found here http://www.ozbow.net/phpbb2/index.php
Glenn Newell of Southern Cross archery is very helpful I believe with that type of information as well.

So i hear that spotted gum can work does anyone have any stories or pics of a spotted gum bow which they made.
So i can get some sort of idea on what to expect or whether it really does work.
Spotted Gum is a very good timber for bows as long as it it cut west of the Great Divide, the coastal spotty is no good as a rule. It has very good tension properties but the modulus of rupture could be higher, so it is best to make the back of the bow narrower than the belly or trapp the back to the belly and you will get a very good shooting and long lasting selfbow out of it. You can make a good "D" section longbow out of spotty but I would opt for the flatbow design around 66 inches myself...Glenn...
