Has anyone bought a 3D target from Bass or Cabellas and did you have any problems getting it here?
Looking at buying a Delta coyote from Bass it appears to quite a bit cheaper than buying from some of the local guys here.
If I get burnt I will let you all know so as to avoid the same problem.
Facts so far local made product $225
Imported product from local dealer $450
Bass Pro shop US$99 plus US$35 freight = AUS$180? see what happens?

mate, dont get me started on cabelas! i love them way too much that i have to refuse to even look on their site for fear of impulse buying. ive got a few things from them and have never had a drama. ive found they generally work out to be much cheaper (including freight) than local archery shops on most things. its a minimum of $15 delivery, so your not gonna buy small things like field points etc from them, but on bigger and better items they are fantastic! i got an ameristep popup ground blind for AU$105 delivered to my door, and tree stands are dirt cheap too!

I could use that for protein shakes in camp

i do not think deer are skitty enough so while hunting i might need to fire it up to have a milk shake. Those long stalks are taxing and you never know when you will need a coktail in the middle of a stalk and it is hard to run a lead while stalking.

Got to get one of those, I could whip up a double chocolate malted thickshake with ice cream from my fridge after a hard days hunting.

No really, I do have the fridge and ice cream :D

Better get me a bigger truck while I'm at it too! 8)

Arrived late last week, better quality than I anticipated and AUS$171 target and air freight. I am happy :D

Have you ever herd of a guy named Al Alcorn from the sunshine coast?
He makes 3d targets that are authorized copies of Mackenzie targets. About half the price too.
I have the equivelant in the Mackenzie range to what you have purchased, it's not nearly finnished off as well in detail, but for $140 - 150 (roughly) and considering i'm punching holes in it, who cares what it looks like? :D

Roughly $140 - $150? I got quoted $220 I am all for supporting local but the price and quality have to be competitive.

$220? it was 18 months ago when i got mine but thats one hell of a price increase!! The quality would have wanted to increased fairly dramaticlly since then to warrant that sort of dosh!

maybe i got it cheaper because i ordered it with an order my local 3D club put in? :?

Good thread Howling Dog.

I recently received my order of targets from Canga archery. The Coyote is not bad quality. It appears that Canga are using the Rhinehart style foam now. it's a lot softer than the McKenzies and heals very well.
The Coyote is quite small though.

i would be interested in seeing a picture of the 3D target you got as the quality looks good and the price is better than $220.

wrc.555 our order was for 5 for our archery club and we received them at the prices quoted on the canga website. No discount.

Although the target does not have replaceable centre, I intend to buy one of the repair kits from Cabellas in the future. I am more than happy with the appearance, quality and size of the target. I have since been contacted by Bass that Delta targets are to be sold through Abbey Archery, I will be curious to see the price?
CMB50 hope the photo is what you want.

Excellent photo, thank heaps.

The quality looks really good. Very well finished. What is it like to shoot at? Does it 'heal' well?

Doing a bit of seaching, I'm not sure if it's 3DAAA legal though. Might have to check on that.

Thanks .

They look like they are a Delta target made for Cabellas?
They look identical. The howling version is shown in the latest 3D newsletter. Have not shot it yet, my son is coming on school holidays soon, he wants to kill it first! Will keep you updated on the wear & tear!

Great pic HD, was wondering what kate and your other dogs thought when they saw it?

Looks like an ideal pet, i bet he doesnt eat much or bark in the middle of the night and best of all doesnt leave 'presents' all over the backyard ;)

Cam, they sniffed it and nearly p#ssed on it! I am thinking of using it as decoy this weekend near a dead beast when out howling, it may help?
Speaking of barking Kate still hasn't barked yet, 12 months old next week.
Last Monday night this week there were about four dogs howling down in the gully, Kate has never paid attention previously, just looked but never answered. she has only ever howled when I ignore her a real sorrowful sound. But on Monday night she started calling back to the dingoes! She has a blood curdling short howl if you were out bush in the dark you would sh#t!

Last year while shooting in a 3d. comp. my companions and myself watched 4 dingoes stalk a mckenzie hen turkey, 20m away.

Sounds like Kate's looking for a boyfriend mate  Better keep the gate locked.
I reckon it'd be a great decoy to use, slightly concealed yet clearly outlined. Hope you have some luck with it . Dual perpose target butt / decoy, for the 1 low price. :D

Cheers, Cam

It doesnt look stable. Does it remain standing after your arrows hit it? Or do you have to go and pick it up agter everyshot you take?

Howling Dog
09-06-05, 11:24 AM
As stated above my son wants to kill it first on the holidays so not shot yet. Two steel rods supplied with it that go up a tube in the legs, I don't see stability a problem.

Most 3d targets come with some rebar that you hammer into the ground and place the target onto the rebar.

ahh I see, Im looking to buy a few as well in the next month. Can you buy the replaceble body parts here or are they specific to the company who made the target?.

CMB50
14-06-05, 11:01 AM
replacement parts for this particular brand of target would have to be purchased from the company.
If you purchase McKenzie targets or Canga targets then their centers are the same size and fit and therefore can be swapped.

How many arrows can it be shot with before you need to start thinking about a replacment centre?

The Canga brand targets will absorb and stop several thousand arrows on each side. I was speaking with Al on the weekend about them and he told me the figure, but I can't recall exaclty.

I can chase it up if you want.

I shot a Rabbit size 3d target a mate had, and it keeped falling over- they may now have an anchoring system on these- as at the time it was very annoying... :x :x :)

if you could that would be great. I just want to know if I buy a back up centre piece at the time I purchase the target or if it can wait.

Made my own 3D Rabbits a while ago.

They are still going strong, just throw them on the grass out the back and take pot shots with the Judos.

Have since painted them grey for some realism, and attached them to the base with bike tubes rather than Silastic (broke off after the first dozen shots)

Was just wondering fellas if the $200 import limit only applies to products exclusively or does it include postage? ... Say if i was getting something for $190 aussie dollars (after conversion with u.s dollar) but cost a further $20 for postage would that then break the customs $200 dollar barrier or is it based on the goods not the transport costs?

Hope that kinda made sense ;)

Just had a thought Lads (ouch)

At the Gladstone club we had a couple of running pigs. They were simply a pig shaped pillow made from shade cloth, we packed them solidly with plastic. They stopped arrows quite well.

I don't have any pics, maybe one of the Glado Boys could post one?

Cheers Noel

Old trampoline mats are great for making these type of targets and packed with off cut wetsuit material stop heaps of arras. Our bags at our club are about 300mm thick and stop arrows from my 64# compound at 5m no problems.

customs always adds the postage to the price of the goods and then charge gst on the lot - theives! You'd think we were importing the postal service too!
