Give us the quick version of your life story:
Born in Adelaide spent most of my life here apart from a 18 month stint in Townsville in 79-80 when my old man was in the airforce. Left home at 18 and moved to Canberra for 6 years. Then moved back to Adelaide at the end of 96. Was in a major car accident December 97 which changed my life forever in many ways.
Have worked in several fields (jack of all trades master of none) have been a Chef, Landscape gardener, security alarm installer, retail sales, manager of two Dominos stores and am now a Draftsman/Project manager.
Have been married for 3.5years now and have a 1yr old daughter.

How did you get started in archery/bowhunting?
I had always had a passion for archery right back to when I was knee high to a grass hopper. All ways wanted to be the indian when playing cowboys and itchy bums. Use to make bows and arrows form the local trees and dads fishing line. But never got into it full on until just over 4 years ago a mate of mine (his dad use to shoot indoor) said lets go have a shoot. Went to the local club near my place and had a blast. Went home grabbed the credit card told the wife I'm going shopping and 3hrs later came home with my first bow, a proline compound. and havn't looked back since.

what was your first bowkill?
My first bow kill was a 11# carp on a club carp kull.

what’s your favorite hunting setup and why?
Mmm another choice, I'd have to say my curve as it's light and easy to move around with, with either wood or carbon shafts tipped with either ribbies or outback hunters shooting off the shelf.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/NotquiteRHood/IMG_0346.jpg

what’s your favorite hunting method?
Definatly has to be spot and stalk it adds that little bit extra of a challenge and really tests your skills as a hunter.

what got you started in trad?
Just another part of archery and hunting that apealed to me so had to giv eit a go and thats how I got bitten by the trad bug.

where in australia is your favourite hunting location?
Any where that there's game. But unfortunatly to date I have only hunted in South Australia. Seems that every time I organise a hunt interstate something comes up and throws those plans out the window.

Whats the first thing you look for when hunting a new area?
Any sign of game for a start, any game trails, poop water ways and so on.
Also a good place to set up camp.

where would you like to hunt in the future in australia?
Everywhere but in particular Far north of Oz and the Vic highlands.

whats your favourite ausy game animal to hunt and why?
The humble bunny, as they are such a challenge being such a small target especially with trad gear.

Have you hunted overseas?
Yes I was fortunate enough to hunt NewZealands North Island in March 2005. I meet up with Steve (nortcom) and his brother Matt. Matt took me out for two days after pigs and Red deer, but unfortunately luck was not in our favour. And we only heard them with not so much as a glimps of them. I did how ever have a shot at a wallaby, yet again things went wrong and the arrow deflected of a small twig through the small window I had to shoot through. Matt also took me out with a mate of his in a boat to go bow fishing for sting rays. I got one with a barb of 8.5".
on my last day with Steve he took me to a small goat property near his diary farm. Which had a small mob of about 15 goats with one huge billy and some small billys as well. Managed to get a stalk on the biggest billy but blew it with a down hill shot and my arrow safely missing him just under his belly and behind the front leg and stuck into a tree root.
The next stalk was a lot more successfull with complete passthrough just behind the front shoulder of an unsusspecting nanny, found my arroe in two after it hit the tree 10m past the nanny. Followed the blood trail for 20m then it just stopped, after looking for her for a long time she was no where to be found, but I do know that she fell down the side of the hill. not a total loss as after I shot the nanny and the mob took off Steve was in waiting and picked off the second to last nanny out of there for meat.
I'm headding back to NZ in January 2007 so hope to a bit more luck then on the pigs, goats wallabies, possums and deer.

what is your dream overseas hunt?
For me that would be to hunt a Huge Bull Elk. Or any hunting in Canada (love the country side over there)

What do you believe is the best promotion for bowhunting and why?
Is to promot it as a humane and effective form of feral control.
And the fact that it gets some of us couch potatoes out and about exercising.

whats the one peice of advice you'd give to new bowhunters?
Get the best suited bow for you and your abilities, join a club and ask lots of questions (no such thing as a stupid question just stupid answers) and practice practice and keep practicing.
Always pratice with broadheads not just field tips and often.

what are your other interests?
God, My wife and daughter (now 1 year old), Fishing, camping, cars, wood work.

What is the worst moment of your archery career?
Has to be the last 6 months, as I havn't had any time to shoot any arrows or go hunting due to work commitments and my daughters health issues (which look to be clearing up as she gets older).

What is the best moment of your hunting career?
I hate questions like this one as there are so many best moments.
Such as my first kill, first of any species, and also just the thrill of being out doors surrounded by the wonders of nature.
Best moments were my first bunny and first trad fox.

Who has inspired you?
I'd have to say all the guys on this site and Ozbow. For all their help thoughts and encouragement.

what was your funniest moment in Archery/hunting?
Funny or stupid I have one of each.
Fisrt was when I went hunting/bowfishing and left the poles for the dome tent home, but came up with an alternative! I used my golf umbrella to hold the tent up while sitting it on top ot the water cooler.
And then when I was in full camo and standing near a couple of trees and a kangaroo came and sat no more then 4m away from me and had no idea that I was there......that was until I farted

What aspect of bowhunting do you enjoy most?
The peace and solitude and being at one with nature
Getting back to grass root basics.

What's a few ethics that you strongly believe in while hunting?
Treat your game with respect, as to the property owners, their land and their neighbours.
Take what ever you need for your trip but leave nothing when heading for home.

Whats your ultimate hunting situation?
Just being out hunting is the ultimate situation. But out witting you game and grounding them turns any hunting situation into the ULTIMATE hunting situation

Thanks Hood for the insight into what makes you tick.
We have to do something to keep S.A.'s end up in terms of bowhunting. Good to see you get rid of some of those rotten carp, too.

Get out after 'em again soon mate,
Puk
