I'm going to get a leafy top and face mask but i think i will give the pants a miss. My hunting mate daniel has a set and his pants have been ripped to threads because of the huge distances we walk and the thick scrub we bash through i just dont think they would last? Would it suit my situation more to just wear camo jeans with the leafy top or should i go the whole suit.

Also was thinking of asat? or is there better out there now?

any help greatly appreciated.

Macka, I never realized Asat was supposed to be the best :? I know of blokes that think it is way over-rated.

I have a leafy suit that gets dragged through the blackberries and does fine. I hunted in my Blackfoot gear again on the weekend and walked to within 20m of kangaroos without too much hassle, it breaks up my outline very well. You don't really need 3D if you have the right 2D.

But this is only my opinion.

Macka,

I agree with Dave.

A good quality 3d Leafy stands up to a lot of the rough stuff. You get what you pay for.

I went with an ASAT, mainly because of the terrain I hunt in Qld - dry. Had wallabies feed right up to 5 yards while staking out a dam. I often just wear des cam pants and the ASAT top and mask for the reason you mention - I find it easier on the longer walks.

Macka,
Living a bit remote like myself, jump on Ebay and have a look what is there under the sporting goods-hunting section.

I don't know what will suit best where you hunt, but you can have a good look at some of the alternatives. And you can get them posted to your door.

Macka,

I find that 3D pants are a bit cumbersome, particularly in thick terrain, and probably not necessary for good concealment. Most of the hunters I know who use 3D just wear the top with "traditional" camo pants.

In terms of patterns, ASAT has been the most effective camo I've ever used. Wearing ASAT, I have been able to get very close to, and harvest, game in a range of environments, from Cape York to South Australia and overseas.

Just my two cents...

I bought some nat gear evergrenn pants about this time last year and have been wearing them hunting neally every weekend. being the cluts i am i always fall over rocks slide down big rock faces, and get cuaght up in barbed wire fences and walk through really thick scrub. in the same thick scrub i wore some advantage pants that came with my shirt the leafy one and they were destroyed after three hunts. i also have a natural gear suit on its way i can not wait. And as someone else said you get what you pay for!

hey thanks all for your replies. yeah Puk i think i'll have a browse around on ebay or maybe just get a mate to pick something up from archery mart in adelaide. I was just interested to hear how everyones leafy pants had held up to the conditions.

I wear my ASAT suit every weekend, had a few falls into Blackberry and lots of mountain climbing.

The ASAT has worn very well and is comfortable enough for all this type of walking.

Lasting better than the Auscam pants that I wear underneath.

Don't know how the others hold up but I am very happy with this purchase.

Macka go on ebay and type in camo suit, thats how i got mine, it cost 120 and i can get to 20 metres of roos aswell.its a mossy oak leafy camo suit and its made of like flyscreen type stuff but tougher.you could wear just the top and im gonna wear just the top and army green daks next hunt.If it was a hot day the suit alone would be perfect
you could also make a top by sewing shreds of camo colored rags on to some light jacket or something but this one ive got has a hood and you could stand amongst bushes with it on and people wouldnt even see you let alone animals

Macka,

Check out how concealed my legs are in granite country with the camo I wear.

thanks guys for all your help i actually just got myself a full suit from archery mart today. It was only $230 and he said that these ones are new from the states and are not made from mesh underneath but of the same material the leaves are made out of which makes them a lot tougher and should suit my pourpose a lot better. Its the same stuff as my 2d stuff as well so it should work pretty well but i do hunt very different landscapes. If the pants dont go to well i'll just wear the top with my traditional pants. thanks for your help.

If this is the case I think you may find them pretty hot and sweaty in hotter conditions macka, I hope it suits your needs as they are an expensive investment

One of the reasons I went with ASAT was because they let your body breath in the summer and they are tough to boot...

I just bought a 3d Bugmaster suit, Nice to wear, and I like the idea of the built in hood and face mask.

Yeah the material does breath a bit but nothing like the mesh ones and is no where near as cool to wear. It was about 26 degrees on sunday and i wore it all day and diddnt swaet in it (i dont really sweat anyway) but i can see when it gets to 40 degree's its going to be a bit warmer thats for sure! But i think i will put up with it as it will last a lot longer than what a mesh one would have. Might be worth getting a mesh leafy top off of ebay or something to wear with the pants for the warmer months ahead of us.
