I was thinking today that the battery in my Ford Courier is still original from 97 and this seems a lot longer than people say they will last.It gets used every day running kids to school and the odd hunting trip to the bush and has done 130000 kms.It still works fine but I dont want it to pack it in out in the middle of noware. What is the normal life span?
Cheers KIM

Kim,
in my experience they don't last much longer than their warranty period :x (usually a few months after the warranty runs they **** themselves)But then I do a hell of a lot of driving in the bush of corrugations and run a fridge all the time which is constantly draining the battery(if the bloody waeco isn't in the fridgy mechanics :x ). I normaly don't get much past 18-24mnths before they go to the grave and running duell batteries is can be expensive

im not sure how long they last but we still have the origanl in 88 petrol so maby it just depends on how much you drive the car

Sparra it must be a good one then. :D I have done all the servicing myself and the only thing I have done outside of that is the timing belt at 100000 as instruted and I have replace the glow plugs today(2nd time)
Not bad for 130000 kms I rekon.I have replaced the oil and filter every 5000 and keep the air filter clean.I take it pretty steady but the missus give it a fair bit of stick when she drives it :D I am thinking of trading it but I am not sure if the newer version would be much of an improvment.

Just kidding mate..If you look after them and service them every 5000k's
they will almost go forever...I had a 2.4 87 hilux and traded it with 420000
on the clock...I would have kept it but the rust beat me...

Kim I have had a couple of batteries that have lasted around 8 years but most of them only seem to last a couple of years...Glenn...

Kim,
The battery in my 98 Navarra is still the original, though we are on the 2nd battery in the wifes 98 Daewoo. I would have thought my deisel would eat more batteries than her puny 4 cylinder. Go figure :?

It seems like I have had a good run anyway so I think I will put a new one in thanks for all the input.

Our 2000 VT is just now starting to show signs of needing a new battery, especially on the really cold mornings.
