View Full Version : longbows
well i was just wonting to know what longs bows
u shoot what u think off them etc
thanx :D :D
got three, two woomera's which are very nice shooting bows. Ordinary to look at with dark grey glass limbs though. One Internature, which looks a little better, performs ok, but suffers more handshock.
There are plenty of Australian made ones well worth checking out. Glenn here is reputed to make very nice ones, and I can vouch for Joe Vardon in Adelaide, aswell as the woomera's from Ausbow industries.
Newbie there are many different styles of longbows such as reflex-deflex limbs, straight limbs, forward handle and backset handles, all have their advantages, it's best to shoot as many styles of bow that are in your budget to see what suits you. My preference is for the reflex-deflex longbow with a foward handle...Glenn...

I currently shoot a fox T/D and a Chekmate Crusader both are beautiful to shoot with little to no hanshock at all.I have a "TurBow" arriving in the next few days so I am looking forward to shooting that one.
I agree with glenn though , Find the style that suit's you before buying one .

newbie
I've used a Howard Hill "Redman" for 35 years. It has served me well over the years, however I didn't really appreciate just how much hand shock the old HH had until I started using various quality recurves and a Martin "Savannah" longbow. The Savannah is very nice to shoot. It has almost zero handshock. It shoots where you look (most times :) ) and is fairly forgiving of minor mistakes of form. It also shoots a fairly fast arrow too. It's a bit of the heavy side for a longbow though.
Are you looking to buy your first longbow newbie? As the others have already said, it would pay to look around a lot and try as many bows as you can before commiting yourself. The amount of money you are prepared to spend will also come into the equation. There's a few excellent value for money longbow available at the present.
