I have noticed a lot of pictures of bows recently that have the sights sticking a long way out from the bow. My sight has two settings I have mine on the setting closest to the bow. Is the any benefits of either of them?

i think one reason for this is to adjust it to your anchoring point, different angle from you eye to the pin. if ya know what i mean

There is some basis for a school of thought that the extension of the sight can counter bow torque and a gentleman by the name of James Park has some insight on this.
Of course to get to this perfect equation would I imagine require a fair amount of experimentation to find this extension for each individual archer / bowhunter.
It makes sense to me that the further away from the peep the sight is, the more accurate it functions as an aiming apparatus.
I reason this due to the increased accuracy that comes with the increase in length of a rifle barrel and there for the distance between the rear iron sight and the fore sight (if not using a scope). Compare this to a pistol of short length and the accuracty difference is remarkable!
Having said all this, I do not personally use my sights extended the full amount becuase it's just not practical in the scrub and is more prone to damage and being bumped putting the sights out of line...not something I'm keen on.

Luke that was the exact reason I put mine short, to stop it getting caught up in the scrub
Well i have mine pretty short mainly for that reason as well. I'm not too keen on those stretched out sights but thats my thoughts.

Yep to the above. Glenn, what kind of sight do you have?

Not sure? I got it with my bow, hoyt ultra tec, all I known is that it is a micro-lite. I assume it's a hoyt?

Another reason is, the pin gap changes, or you can see the housing better in the peep.
