GPS troubles

I have a Garmin etrex legend. Does anyone know how I can download maps onto it? I have the computer cable. Any help will be appreciated.

i googled "Garmin" and came up with this

You need the Garmin map program (Mapsourse or Metroguide), and the maps that come with it. If you don’t have the Garmin product you are not able to load maps into your unit.

There are some 3rd party maps available, but the aussie ones aren’t developed yet (that I know of).

This is what I have found out so far but dont quote me on it.
1- I buy Mapsourse or Metroguide.
2- I find a map I want online.
3- I downloaded it onto the disk.
4- I can then load it from the disk into my GPS.
Thats the way I understand it anyway.

The maps for Australia are all found on the Mapsource disc. You can’t use 3rd party maps in your garmin. Well there is a way but it involves a great deal of work making your own, and I will find the link if you think you want to spend the time on it.
