I was just wondering if anyone has ever been hurt by a feral animal whilst out hunting??
thanks michael
only my pride a few times
Wellsy
Was asked away with the North East Deerstalkers on their weekend camp.
2 of the blokes came back from a hunt and reported finding a deer carcass on an old snig track, a dead dog lying near the deer and a bag still hanging in the tree with a leg and the backstraps in it.
The meat in the bag was off and the carcass did not have a scrap of meat on it.
Our guess was that he had carried out the first load and returned to find the dogs had claimed his deer. He shot one as he retreated.

I was bitten by a pig once. I tackled it and was trying to tie it so I could get it on the mountain bike and it bit me. I let go and it got it's second chance at life.
The things you see when the bow is at home
It wouldn't be this one would it Mick?

Have never been hurt by an animal whilst hunting..... YET.
Had a goat up in new south turn on me and gave me a big bruse across my shoulder where it head butted me. Other than that i grabbed my rusa stag after i had spine shot it and it swung its head and gave me a corkie.

Once when a mate and I were dogging pigs in the Gulf (Nth QLD, quite a few years ago I might add). We had been walking a creek for an hour or so and had 8 or so pigs tied up along the water course. After working like a dog chasing them by the time I had to load them in the truck I was stuffed, this particular pig had been resting in the shade for quite a while and I had a lapse and cut the tie before I had a good foot on the hog. All hell broke loose when the pig stood straight up, turned and tried to rip me up the legs. I did all I could do and grabbed the bugger by the ears, as he moved in I lifted,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I managed to flip him over backwards and he bolted. My mate thought it was Gold, he could hardly manage to let a dog off to catch the pig between laughing fits. In the mean time I realised that I had blood spurting out of my forearm. I still had my rather large Svord sticker in my hand and the pig must have pushed the blade into my forearm. The cut was about 5cm long and 1.5cm deep. A little cream and a bandage and I was good to go. I think we kept hunting for another 6 days before we left for Brisbane. I give them a little more credit now days.

Many many years ago, in NSW fox shooting, this particular time i took my father along for the trip, spotlighting late into the night, very heavy fog setting in we managed to spot a fox, and the father took the shot (with his .22 mind you), the fox went down , "great shot" i said, and i ventured out to pick the fox up, on returning to the vehicle, i held the fox up to show the old man, when placing the fox on the ground ( now he came to life) he decided he wanted my foot, and boy did he grab hold, i was wearing gum boots at the time and he pierced right through the boot and got me by the foot, i must say they can certainly bite , have also like Macka been head butted by an old cranky billy goat, and i was under a station shearing shed trying to get this billy out from under the shed at the time, not much room under there for the two of us, so he decided he wanted out and i was in the way.

he didnt get me, but on my second ever hunting trip when i was about 8 or nine, we were spotlighting for pigs. we herd a big boar and a couple of sows in the scrub, so myself and a mate got of the ute and went after these pigs with the shotgun(me) and a 327 lever action(mate). my mate had a shot at a sow and downed it straight away, when we heard a lot of rustling. suddenly, about 40 metres of, i could see this hog running for the both of us.
we bolted back to the truck together, ross hopped on first, then i turned around to see the boar about ten metres off. once we were both on the ute and safe, my mate's dad got it with his side by side...
sorry its wasn't with the bow, but its all ive got so...

I had a mate who got bitten by a rabbit! No Bull.
As he went to pick it up it spun on its back, and bit him on the middle finger....lol. So funny.
Never thought a rabbit would do that until then.
Has anyone else known of a rabbit to do this?

Yeh mate been bitten twice now by the ticked off cotton tail. Second one got me on the loose bit of skin between thumb and finger, little bugger put his teeth right through. My mate had to break his neck to get him to let go.... youch!!!!!!

When I was about four years old we lived in Melbourne. Our PET rabbit attacked me and tore into my legs. It also had a go at an even younger child of some people visiting my parents.
Needless to say, my Dad disposed of it humanely...
Apparently it was a territorial thing, it used to piss on people too.

not strictly hunting but...,
on cadet camp at shoal water bay we were on a night exersise.
In the safety breif thing they said to watch out 4 pigs (and to climb the nearest tree) so, we were walking along a road with dense grass either side. As we neared the checkpoint (we didnt know we were that close) sum 1 decided to hide in the grass. i was walking beside picot (hugearm) and all of a sudden we hear this RRR eeehh rr (like a pig) oh SH%T, picot decided to use me as a human sheild  (he does regret it though)
but OMG that was scary

Not an injury so to speak, but i found that on my pig property that the smaller pigs charge but the big ones don't, might be the fact that smaller pigs have more to lose and defend themselves more while the bigger boars can stand their ground.
But i find that the smaller pigs are really aggressive to the point i'd feel safer being around an 80kg boar than a 35-40kg one.
