View Full Version : Who takes pictures of the game they hunt?
I take photos of all my harvests. I have an almost spirititual bond/moment with each kill.
I can recall each stalk and want to have a touch-able memory of each one.
What about you?
I think that is part of the reason we stalk in so close isn't it? We are proud of our animals, we like them, so it hurts us in a way if they suffer.
I take more away from it than just a photo with a dead animal. It is a reminder of "the dance". Stalk, hunt, whatever.

I personally don't like seeing pictures of dead animals.
Recently I have started taking pictures of the game that I take mainly for my boys.
They are always asking about what the animal looks like before dressing out and when I do bring pictures home it makes them more eager to practice with their bows so they can come hunting too.
When I can get in the habit of stopping, when I first spot game, and taking pics, then I will post some of them alive going about their normal lives in the wild.
And also some of the ones of culled animals my boys like the best.

Bowhunting is a new experience to me and i figure im not that good at it yet, i have taken 3 boars, 2 sows since i started about 3-4 weeks ago and have photos of them and feel much the same as you Shano.

In all my years of hunting I think I have taken pictures of two of the animals I have harvested.
I dont like looking at the pics.

Hi Warlocke and XtFreak,
WOW  I can't understand how you can hunt or even choose to access this site if don't like pictures of dead animals?
To see a dead animal in the flesh must be an absolutely devastingly experience for you both if that is the case.
IMHO, I think the least a hunter can do is take a respectable picture of their harvests in order to distinguish themself from those that are just killers.
Just my thoughts, no offence implied or intended
Shano
Shano I think we all have our own way of respecting the animals we hunt, and the lads just don't feel the need or what ever reason to take photos of the animals they hunt. Im sure they can answer better than I.
Me personally I try and take photos of all the animals I have hunted if it shows them in a (what I deem) respectable way, its a memory I hold dear to my heart that I want to capture. And a lasting photo I can share with good hunting mates, family and myself in years down the track. However I have harvested animals in the past that I have not taken photos of that are powering to me.

I love the side of photography in hunting, its closed second to the actual hunt IMO, love quality photos of my and other people’s game, it takes some time the master the art IMO that why I spend so much time setting up pictures so they represent the animals in it final state with respect and honor.

Dead animals do not devastate me, I just choose not to look if I dont have to. (Ive spent many an hour looking at mates' pics after their hunts)
This forum is more than just pictures of dead animals. Its all about hunting, and everything connected to hunting, and that’s what I like to read. Also reading the stories of peoples' hunts makes me a better hunter.
I hunt only what I can eat. That’s why I have not hunted much in Australia, as I have no access to deer. I also believe that by eating what I hunt it distinguishes me from an ordinary killer. (I judge this on the basis that most killers’ dont eat what they kill).
That’s just me.
No offence intended to anyone.

i'm the same as shano, sparra_gump & peterM.
i love taking pics of the game i hunt, i can recall every stalk and every shot (even though i haven't shot much!) and i am so proud of my achievements as a bowhunter, a hunting photo album it is like a growth chart you had when you were a small kid.
