Hi guys i know alot of you practice in your back yard, i would like to know the laws on this and how they may vary state to state.
Any help would be appreciated and im sure there are others asking the same questions.
Cheers Paul
Theres no law in Queensland that says you can't practice in your back yard. For now anyway.....

ive got a feeling that you cant in victoria, but as long as your arrows dont go astray, whos gonna know?
The problem with common sense is what you perceive as common sense will be different to how a lot of other people think is common sense. I am alwayse amased a what risks people take and their attitude to what is common sense

Does anyone actualy know what the law is in NSW regarding bows. Can i take my bow up the local oval and shoot my target butt? Not saying i would , but could i if i wanted to? And if i was shooting in my backyard could the cops come around and bust me for something?
Ive wondered this for awhile, so any difintive answer would be appreciated.
Cheers, Cam

about 10 years ago at my local park an old guy was there with one of those dodgy fibreglass beginner bows and was firing arrows across the oval. no one said anything to him and he even gave us a shot. but i reckon now thered be cops there in an instant.
the local parks not the best place for a practice, but im gonna shoot in my backyard regardless of any laws. im not hurting anyone and after all its my land.

I plan to shoot down a driveway into a large garage, my grandad built it which means you couldnt put a truck through the wall, let alone an arrow. The front doors are big enough that Stevie Wonder would have trouble missing. Behind the garage is a fince then a large brick wall, surely since there's no risk of a wayward arrow finding its way anywhere but my garage there's no harm in me doing this.

P.S IF anyone does complain, ill stop.
Back yard shooting, Its killed before in Australia :!: Its not just a huge backstop that you want but the way you draw, objects around the line of fire that could kick a poor shot in the wrong direction. Doesn't matter how good you are these things can happen. Make sure you draw straight at your target because one day when your doing that wild draw up in the air your fingers, release or release loop may give way  . I don't support back yard shooting as its a hazard waiting to happen. Anyone that knows the power of a bow would be scared to live near you. As for oval shooting, I was watching this guy (good shot) shooting a butt on an oval, he missed which sometimes happens. The arrow skipped 80 meters across the oval and hit a house. I wouldn't put our sport at risk to save a drive to the club or suitable shooting grounds. I suppose it depends on what kind of backyard you have, maybe you don't have neighbors (lucky buggers)
I agrre adam. I used to live on acerage and could shoot with no hassle. Oneday however my string broke at full draw the arrow with broadhead on and went fences over. Quite scary to think if i was in the suburbs it would have went streets over. No matter how good a shot you are there is always variables you cannot control. anyone who shoots 3d would have seen how an arrow can skip of the top of a target and how far and high they can go as well. So it is easier to find a mate with acerage or go to the club the backyard is an accident waiting to happen.

na too dangerous to practice in a back yard i reckon,im on 16 acres here and i practice just outside my front door but if i miss my target the arrows go ,i reckon, three residential sized blocks away
its too risky
I duno about the idea of practicing in backyards, my mate when he first got his release aide went to have a shot and when he draws he points it up in the air and he clipped the trigger and punched himself in the face lol funny to watch but the arrow was lost in the scrub, he did the same thing the next shot to lol. It was just lucky that we were kmÃ*s from anywhere. I still laugh over seeing him punch himself in the face tho LOL
macka
