On the 6: oclock news reports were that a domestic has been shot with an arrow in Tamworth. The dog was still alive walking around with the arrow still lodged.

This sort of behaviour is appauling. I really don't get these idiots. All they are doing is destroying the future of Archery and Bowhunting. We will find out more from a few fellas we know who live in Tamworth for more info.

All I can say is I hope the law catches the moron that did it! Scott

thats just stupid even so if this bloke was a hunter he probably wouldnt take down mucg if it was still in it but i think that is just rediculous  why would you shoot a dog near a town anyway unless it wasnt

if ur shooting any animal you should make sure you have the right poundage to kill it humanely... this idiot obviosly didn't ... a dog with an arrow sticking out of it only puts the public eyes on humane hunters...

I agree, it is possible to confuse domestic dogs with ferral dogs but, if you are not a good enough shot to kill an animal, go practice until you are a good enough shot.....

Sorry, maybe just me...but don't get the gist of this post. :? :? ..is the problem that he shot it or that he didn't kill it ?? and without knowing the full circumstances, ie. was the dog in his back yard attacking his kids, live stock whatever and therefor maybe the actions in shooting it lawful, or did he drill it when passing in the street.. its a bit hard to make a judgement call on the incident itself... :roll

Fair enough call Johnno! I would have presumed that if the mutt in question did attack a kid or live stock then the person who shot the dog would have come forward and made a big hullabullu as why he/she arrowed the dog in the first place. I would have if it attacked my kid or live stock! As it has turned out no one knows anything. All that has been discovered is a dog with a field pointed arrow stuck in it.
Maybe I did go off half cocked! It just ryles me to hear of such things that can and will damage our sport of bowhunting. Cheers

Scott, You have nothing to be  about.

I think we can make a judgement call on this person.

1- I`m sure if a dog was attacking one of my kids I would be running inside to grab my bow and try to shoot it. What if you miss and hit your kid. (maybe you could ask your kid to hold it still for you ). You would have to be an idiot.

2- To drill it when passing in the street. You would have to be an idiot.

3- To even aim at a domestic pet under any circumstances with a bow is a sign of stupidity.

So in my book it doesn`t matter if it was shot or that they didnt kill it, who ever done it is an idiot.

I think the point Johnno is trying to make is that you really dont know the whole story so we probaby shouldnt be jumping to conclusions.

The dog may have ran through a yard were a bow hunter was practicing for all we know. The shooter may have looked everywhere for the dog but couldnt find it when it took off. Maybe the shooter is a responsable bowmen and done all they could to try and rectify the problem. Jumping to conclusions and labelling them is pretty poor form.

There is also a good chance that maybe the news story wasnt the whole story

With all due respect, the fact of the matter is that if it was an accident where a shooter didnt see the dog while practicing, then a responsible archer would have informed somebody of an accidental shooting of a dog which then would have been noted on the news as an incident, not a malicious act. (maybe)

Either way, I do not know and neither does anyone else exactly what happened. And yes I did say in my post above that maybe I did go off half cocked. But when it is put on the news for all to see, whether it be accidental or not, it still effects all archers and hunters and their sport. People just need to be aware and responsible and take all proper measures to rectify their actions to ensure things dont get blown out of proportion as we know the media are very good at, especially when they have no facts themselves. If no one steps forward and claims responsibility for the act of course they will run with it.

As for poor form! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I have mine.
Here awhile back a roo was found with an arrow stuck in it. How do we know that the roo in question didn't jump all over the persons vegy garden  or attack someone, which a buck kangaroo will do if he thinks his ladies are threatened. That person was labelled as an idiot. No one knows exactly why or what happened.

And in the words of a great actor, 'Thats all I've got to say about that'!!!

"Poor form" give me a break. :?

I think it's pretty obvious whats happened, the odds of it having been an accident are huge.

Idiots with bows who irresponsibly shoot arrows are our biggest enemy.

Don't use your bow in any circumstance other than for hunting/target etc. Anything like this is bad press.

Ie; If a cat is in your yard, use a dirty great stick
