I have been tinkering in the shed today tuning and making arrows and just playing around and I was trying to get a b/head weight of around 220 grains for the carbons I was making up for my recurve.I have some Concords and Aztecs at about 185 so with a aluminium adap they would be about right but I also had 6 of the small heads I thing they are called spirits(not sure) and these are 125 grains so I got an old 125 grain field tip and ground it down to the same profile as an adaptor and it came to exactly 100 grains. Now these smaller but now heavier b/heads fly just like the field tips and group with them out to the 23 mtrs I can shoot in my yard.I also think that steel adaptors would have to be stronger than an aluminium one. This is prob old news and I know you can get buy steel adap from the US but most guys have a few spare field tips laying around if they need to lift the weight on their carbons to increase FOC.

Lots of front weight is working for me too.
We are lucky we have easy access to the steel adapters and brass inserts. I have 100 gr brass inserts on all my carbons, but a 6mm or 243 bulley epoxied behind the insert does a good job of adding front weight.

I shoot the Aztec with a 125 steel adapter, and the big Ace 200 with the 125 adapters also. With the Ace I get 425 up front and 400 with the Aztec.

You should be able to make the adapters pretty acurate by turning them in a drill press and filing them as they turn , or by putting a taper jig on a grinder, like you use for tapering a wood shaft.
Then weigh them and tune the weight by triming back the end. If you start with an 11/32 point they should be easy to make, but it will be time consuming.

It might be worth while for a bunch of you to get together and place a bulk order for Brass inserts and steel adapters and split them up.
It would save a bundle on shipping. The pieces are cheap, it's the shipping that kills.
http://git-r-donearchery.com/ has the best prices in Canada or the US for these.
