i was thinking befor and after reading up on bows and all new gear it made me think about the fact that if you have a bow set on 60lbs and it was shooting 300fps then you get a 70lbs bow that shoots 300fps would the penetration be the same if both bows were shooting the same arrows :?:

it should, because the kinetic energy would be the same.... the whole reason for getting a bow with a higher poundage is so that you can shoot arrows with a heavier gpi and stiffer spine, which gives better penetration

The 70# bow would provide better penetration in theory because to be at the same speed it is sending a heavier projectile at that speed.

ie: 60# bow shoots arrow at 300 grains = 300fps the 70# bow is going to need a heavier arrow to obtain the same speed say 350 grains. second arrow has more momentum therefore better penetration.

The more momentum and object has the more mass required to stop the item.

sorry... my mistake, i could have sworn it said with the same arrow...

my bad... :? 8)

So you are theorising for different draw lengths then?
Given the same arrow a 70# bow will shoot it faster, however it will not fly the same because it has a different flight frequency leaving the bow and therefore it's impact characteristics are completely different and then that changes according to the distance travelled before impact.

wow let me guess your just getting started

Tip of the theoretical iceberg

You have good taste in quote sourcing though  8)

The arrow does not know what poundage it was shot from. 300 Fps is 300 FPS even if you throw it or shoot it from a canon.
Penetration will only change if the arrows weigh diferent.
At 300 the heavy one will go farther into the dirt on the oposite side of the animal.

Pete is spot on. The same weight arrow travelling at the same speed regardless of bow it came from will penetrate(Spelling) the same.
Cheers, Fenton.
