i personally don't like dogging as i dont think it's hunting, there are no skills required by the person or persons using dogs and have even seen deer bailed up in water by dogs while the menbers of the group gather to watch it being shot from the waters edge.
But each to their own

Not a fan of dogging.

Have no problems with other forms of hunting as long as it's done in a responsible, safe and humane way.

im not a fan of pig dogging at all, but i don't hold it against anyone who does. it takes balls to go after a really agro boar with a knife. as for dogging for deer, in my opinion i think thats wrong and unsportsman like.
i dont mind people that hunt with a rifle, but not someone who lines up a deer and nails it from 300 metres away.
theres nothing worse than reading a shooting magazine and seeing some 'hero' posing with a stag he shot from afar.

Don't agree with Dogging.

Used to hunt with a rifle, decided to go for the challenge of bowhunting.

I am with Adam, I think it is all good as long as the game is taken with the minimum of suffering.

Similar feelings here, I have hunted with a rifle for some time now. Though where my home is in Victoria the wild dog population has become a problem because of the totally rediculous and totally unsporting use of dogs to 'claim' Sambar.

Rory
Do you honestly believe that the dogs that are now taking stock down near your home are foxhounds left by deer hunters?

jindydiver
14-06-05, 06:54 PM
You are right about pig dogs coach, but Rory was specifically referring to dogs used to hunt sambar. Until the law was changed recently to outlaw their use, foxhounds were used by 99% of hound hunters chasing sambar.

I Love dogger's. The property owner where I hunt let some on about 3 years ago. They drove through his crops, got pissed and carried on like real IDIOTS    Now all doggers are banned from his properties    But I now have unlimited access to bow hunt

Jindy,
Your right about the foxhounds, though I can tell you that when I've been up bush back home, fishing and whatever, I've run into some guys with dogs who most definately were 'bitsa', real mungrels, and they are what have really gone wild recently.

Though the Sambar are hardy buggers and are still in good numbers back home.

Hey, thats fair enough Rory, that's why I asked.
There are bad seeds in every sport and I suppose the doggers won't be immune to that.

What are you up to this w/e? I am thinking of getting up to have another look for that red. Want to come?

All Hunting is exceptable in my Eyes- as long as its Responsible and Humane.... :!:

Some of my hunting mates are rifle men, they go one way, I another.

We enjoy the campfire scene in a good hunting camp.

Usually it's me helping with a carry out, but I'm hoping to change that :D

It's all good, and anything thats devisive with hunters is bad.

jindydiver
15-06-05, 08:25 PM
You nailed it woody.
If we let a few bad eggs in some other type of hunting affect our view of the whole sport, and then look down on them (even to the point of not caring if they get legislated out of existence), then who is going to support us when it is our turn in the spotlight?
All hunters need to show support for other forms of hunting so that hunting can be part of the Aussie culture for years to come.
It is important that we take care to not show any gaps in our armour to the antiĆ*s. Next time you see someone being an ******** (like a bunch of doggers breaking the law) that we just be upset with only the ********s, not all doggers (to carry on with the example, not to poke **** at doggers). Maybe it is time we all recognised that only bigoted anti-everything stooges can afford the luxury of just lumping all hunters in the same basket.

I used to do alot of dogging when I was younger and fitter.

I went out last week end with a mate and we got 3 nice boars in the morning with the dogs (2 of them). We then fished with the local kids for a couple of hours (1 Saratoga) then we walked with my old bow and my mates rifle for backup, but thats another story.

If it is done properly dogging can be efficient and effective, as all ways it depends on the guy with the dogs and how he works them. Some are good some are not, just like every other group!

Cheers Noel

It's all good, and anything thats devisive with hunters is bad. Yes to a point . I feel that if the Majority is seen as against some of the BAD hunters then that is a good thing . We dont ALL want to be lumped in together in the bad basket. We need to be seen that we as responsible hunters ARE divided against those that are irresponsible! Otherwise we are all bad hunters

You are dead right Coach. But we need to say ********s are ********s and scream it loud, not just say doggers are ********s because some of them are.
That is the point of what I was saying. If the method is wrong (and I don't think it is) then we have to say so, but if some members of that sport need a flogging, then we should just say that.

Am I getting my point across properly?

I hunt with bow & arra, guns and my dogs. I love em all, my mood changes all the time about what i like the most but it's generally between dogging and bowhunting. I mainly shoot when asked to get rid of pests or for food. I grew up shootin and doggin and they both have they're places in pest control.

For me, i love the outdoors, not just bowhunting. and the elements i love about hunting i can get from dogging, shootin, and bowhuntin. being in the outdoors, the goodtimes with mates, fishing, 4x4'ing etc, can all be had by most forms of hunting. I love the companionship of hunting with dogs for rabbits foxes pigs. I love the stalk and the thrill from bowhunting which for me isn't any more or less exciting than dogging, its just a different kind of thrill.

I do however reckon that there's too many ****heads out there doggin. they dont bother training there dogs. they can't call em of a pig, or they chase roos or aren't stockproofed. F**k those last two give me the ****s when you go huntin with em.
But you'll get those kind of people in any group you go into.

Each to his own.

the only dog hunting ive done is with pointers for quail, which i think is great to watch. they have amazing insticts.

next year im going to do my duck ID test so i can carry on the family tradition.

do you all support duck shooting? of all forms of hunting, it's probably under the biggest threat.

The one hunting form I am really into theoreticly have never actually done it but read alot about it, is Falconry the art of taking wiled quarry with a trained raptor. that is by far the best form of hunting on the planet in my opinion. Unfortunatly it is illigal in Australia  so I have never done it.

Im all for hunting as long as you eat what is edible or kill what cause harm to the country. To be quite honest I dont agree with killing somthing soley for a trophy. But thats just my own feeling on the matter.

Pete

Dean, yeah, i'm for duck hunting. I don't hunt em but i know plenty of people who do, and it brings alot of money into our community.

I think that everyone is entitled to a choice of partcipating in whatever method of hunting they choose as long as it is legal. If people choose to hunt with dogs that is their choice and we as a hunting community should respect that. Sure there are morons around but they can pop up in ALL types of hunting not just doggers and riflemen and that includes bowhunters. Having that freedom of choice is the right of all aussies and theres plenty of bush and ferals for everyone.

Notm sure whether i said this on this forum yet, but i think all hunters should support all forms of hunting, dont get me wrong everyone is of course intitled to there opinion, but [/u] I THINK that it looks bad for hunters to bag other forms of hunting, i know im only a newbie but i guess that gives me a bit more of an "outsider" opinion. I think all should band together for the greater good.

LOL i find dogging fun because u work with the dogs and because it is a productive way of hunting an area (the dogs i go out with enjoy hunting and are well looked after) , and i am also a rifle hunter , and would most likly try any other form of hunting if the chance arose.

I think Jindy said it well.

We need to be supportative of all hunters, we also need to be hard on those that hunt unethically in any way.

Only through that combined approach do we prosper.

Personally I think dogging and rifle shooting dont even rate compared to bowhunting, but thats me and I wont push that view on others

Falconry; Yeah I would love to try that, have always loved birds of prey.

Spear; Now this is something I would definately try, dont get much harder.

What about boomerang hunting. now that has got to be up there as one of the most difficult forms of hunting
