NO I MEAN OIL IT TO KEEP IT IN GOOD CONDDITION TO KEEP THE WOOD IN GOOD CONDITION THERE IS SOME SORT OF OIL TO USE TO PROTECT IT AND LOOK AFTER IT THAT YOU WIPE ON THE BOW EVRY SO OFTEN.

I know mate, I was joking, sorry. :?

One of the fellas will be able to help you out.

Perhaps some linseed oil may do the job? It works for cricket bats ;)

I haven't heard of anybody oiling a longbow....I thought it would be varnished so wouldn't need oiling.

Wouldn't the oiling process be detrimental to the wood. I have a recurve and I wont be oiling her.

Hoytman86,

Mate I'm not sure what the name of the oil/finish protector is but I do know you can get it from any Gun Shop/Supplier it is used for sealing/protecting the wooden gunstocks, maybe one of the other guyson this forum might know what I mean.

It is very durable you would only have to apply it once every year or too, it's not greasy to the touch not to shinny either apply it all over the bow not too much though and if you are planning to glue a backplate/rest to the shelf try not to put to much there.

Also you could Pm Glen Newell or any of the other bowyers either hear or on OZBOW.

Hope this is of some help.

I own a fred bear recurve and my owners manual says to periodically apply a light coat of any good furniture paste wax rubbed on with a soft cloth. This is to stop moisture and scratches.
Hope this helps

The paste-wax is a good idea and the gunstock oil is Casey Tru-Oil...Glenn...

As said earl;ier furniture paste wax is excelant . I use a soft cloth impregnated with silicon spray to wipe over my fibreglass bows . Store it in a plastic bag and carry it with you that way you can wipe your bow over at the end of each days shooting .If you dont like pure silicon spray Mr Sheen works real well on the cloth as well . regards Perry
