Gday all,
Was thinking of getting a knife made by paul mayall, just wondering if anyone has one of his knives and could give me some feedback on the quality etc. I'm going to supply him with buffalo horn for the handle and I've got the belly skin leather from a croc for the sheath. I'm supplying the template for the blade so what would be a fair price for the knife since there is so much imput from myself?

I don’t know Paul Mayall, but I do know knife making and I can give some advice.

Giving him the handle material and the leather for the sheath won’t make much difference to the price of the knife. Giving him a template of the blade might even add to the price because blades are made certain shapes and tang designs for practical reasons and using your template might actually increase the amount of work needed. The buffalo horn will need to be cut and made ready for making into a handle and that might take more time (read money) than just buying the prepared materials from a supplier. The skills needed, the time spent on the knife and the materials are what you are paying for in equal degrees when you order a custom knife.

The final price of the knife will be something the both of you can agree on
