Howdy,

I need to order another string for my recurve, is there a formula to calculate the number of strands that I ask for to match my bows length and poundage? 40lb , 58in, and I'm pulling 29 1/2 in.

Cheers

just roughly 40 # 45 # at your drawlength 12 strands
50# 55#0 - 14 strands
60 # 65 # - 16 strands
70 # 75 # - 18 strands
doesnt mater how long the bow just draw weight at your drawlength . On average a bows draw weight will increase 3 to 5 pounds per inch over bows marked draw weight at 28" . 40# @ 28 " equates to roughly 52#ish at 29 1/2" regards Perry

The numbers Perry gave you are for Dacron, you can drop a couple of strands for stuff like Fast Flight as it is much stronger stuff.

I would exercise caution just dropping a few strands unless you reinforce the string loops . Modern synthetic string materials are much stronger than dacron but that does not mean you can run super thin strings without consequence . The currant batch of high performance string materials dont stretch much if at all so please padd up the string loops to lengthen there life .

Yep I shoot with a 70# Black Widow and use just 14 strands of D75
