View Full Version : Axis Mistake

I have screwed up royally. I purchased two dozen Easton Axis last week and put them together following the instructions. I usually fletch and do the insert thing thing later so I can align my broadheads the way I like with the fletching and nock. This time though I was waiting on new fletchings so I decided to put the inserts in first.

Following what is stated on the pack I used the little green guide and put all the inserts in to set depth given by the guide. A couple of days later my fletchings arrive and I fletch some up. I then got to the point where I would screw my adapters in and glue my broadhead on in my prefered position. Wouldn't you know it, the adapter does not fit in the insert. It sits proud about 8mm when screwed in as far as it goes. I also tried my outbacks for the same result.

My dilemma now is do I find some different broadhead that has a shorter ferule or do I cut the arrows and sell them as a shorter version to someone on here? I have glued them in with the araldite supplied with the arrows and am not sure if I can heat them and pull them out.

I am a little peeved but I only have myself to blame. I was really looking forward to shooting the Axis as I have only heard good things about them. I have been waiting forever for some Montecs to arrive (if they ever do) but at the moment I am flat out of arrows as I gave my last Gold Tips to a friend and they have been cut shorter.

Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have used outbacks on them and although some were a bit snug, I had no real dramas getting them to screw in ok.

Montecs worked well too.

You can see mine in the new Gecko banner ad ;)

Is the lil bit you need to trim off too much making them unusable to you?

:?

Yes Luke. I'd say I need to take an inch to and inch and a half and I have a 30 inch draw. They will be just too short.

Could you cut 5 mm off the end of the broadhead screw so it will go in flush?

Looks like my problem has been solved. Antony from Gecko Archery contacted me and said that he will give me some Montecs for now and then I will give him the ones I have ordered when they arrive in return. What can I say to service like that? Thanks very much to Antony for helping me out. Legend.

Hopefully others will learn from my lesson and perhaps screw their broadhead into the insert before gluing it in. It's what I would have done normally but wasn't sure and didn't expect the results I got given the Easton instructions.

Well things just got a whole lot brighter. Antony (Friar Tuck) from Gecko Archery just rang me and told me to send the arrows back up as he is sending me another 24 free of charge. He said he will cut them down and use them for himself as he has a shorter draw length.

This guy is a champion. I think we are very lucky to have this guy as a sponsor. I don't think you can get better customer service than that.

After speaking with him and Mozza I realise that I didn't push the jig in far enough. There are small rings on it and one side didn't go in and the other did. I used the one that didn't  . Anyway all is well now and I should be shooting by the weekend :D .
