I own a PSE, Hoyt, and Mathews, I've also tried a few Martins, and at the end of the day, I'd go for a Mathews, you won't regret it. The XT is the best.

I've owned Martin -Mathews and Browning. I'd go Mathews as well.

It is $300 dearer. I found that I lost about that much when I realized I loved archery, and NEEDED the best :D

I have blown hundreds on CHEAPER gear.
Try and find the extra, mate. Believe me , it's worth it :D

Brent, if you're looking for quality gear that you will be happy with for a long time, consider some of the high-end used gear available in Oz and the U.S. You will get last year's bow, in near to new condition, for the same or less than a new mid-range bow. Look at the classifieds here, on Archery-Forum http://www.archery-forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18 and Archery Talk (U.S.- PSSTT!! they sell great gear very cheaply there!) http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=8
Don't compromise because of budget. No eye deer summed up many peoples' experiences perfectly.

Hi Brent,

Yeah mathews is good, hoyts good, there all good there all pretty expensive and they all do the same job in the right hands. Don't break your back mate to buy an expensive bow that you may not have the budget for. There's more important things to being able to harvest game with a bow. Practise, tuning, set up, stalking, arrow conbination, bush skills etc. Even the cheapest compound bows can hit a bulleye everyshot.

Some of the better bowhunters I know are shooting older bows like 1990 model martins, and older pse bows. Cheaper new reflex bows and the likes.

I think it is important to find something your comfortable with mate and only you will know what bow that is when its in our hands.

PSE makes a good bow. My oldest son shoots a Nove that my Father owned. We got it for around $300 American . That was with bow quiver and 1 dozer aluminum arrows. My first compound was a reflex grizzly. I bought it ready to shoot for $250.00 . Archery talk is a great place to get bows as well as ebay. I have seen Ben Person re curves sell for $20.00 more then once. Dont give up on a new bow. get the best you can afford. Reflex, Rytera, Fred Bear, Bow Tech diamond PSE are all company's who offer less costly versions of there top end bows. last years Reflex bows used the cam and a half that was so popular. Keep your eyes peeld and you will find what you are looking for. all the companey's have websites so you can check them out .

Dont forget that all the big companies make a cheaper line as well, and they are good.
Mathews - Mission
Bowtech- Diamond
I forget the rest.

Mate, don't stress about buying the dearer bow.I shoot and hunt with a 1994 Oneida and it works as good as the two 2006 Oneida's I just sold.

If Jennings still sold the Carbon Extreme I would still be using one of them.I have a 1989 model hanging in my room and it would have to be the best bow I have ever owned and shot.

Pity you can't get to a club or shop somewhere to try some bows out.I actually like the Reflex line of bows and you see them second hand on here for reasonable money at times.

By the way macca on here has a Bowtech Tomcat I am sure and he has taken goats and deer with it,send him a PM.

After years of shooting recurves, I wanted to try a compound again and didn't want to spend the $1300 on the expensive bows. I purchased a Hoyt Ultramag, it cost $699 and it has taken plenty of game. Having the bow tuned, confident in your shooting ability will go along way to making you a better hunter. All the animals that I have shot didn't know the difference between a 700 and 1300 bow. The classifieds section here, has featured quite nice 2nd hand mathews bows, for very reasonable prices. if price is the only issue.

But once you try them (Mathews), you'll understand peoples enthusiasm for the bows.

Good luck in your choice by the way, I hope you are happy with your new bow.

i have a Darton vapor and it hasn't given me any drama's yet. couple of weeks ago i came 3rd in a club shoot which was against most of the new high end stick throwing machines. i'd stress more about a good rest, release and arrow quality.
