Has anyone hunted Hog deer on public land?

The DSE website provides a list of public lands open for hunting during the open season.

obviously these locations will get crowded and you share it with rifle hunters and duck shooters, however if you look at the statistics, a reasonable number of hog deer get shot on public land each year. And I'll hazard a guess you'll have more chance shooting one on public land than on your couch.

I'm interested other peoples experiences, good/bad, if animals were seen?

I'm toying with the idea of going down in the next few years for a look (it's hard to leave the Fallow and Reds roaring though).

Mate I hunt both private property and the game reserves and many deer can be seen on both.
With the game reserves you will see both rifle and duck shooters (wear some BLAZE ORANGE) but the deer become quiet elusive when the duck season opens 2 weeks before the deer season starts. All that shotgun noise alerts them to the open season and they change their habbits to nocturnal.

Can anyone point me in the direction where I might get access to a guide without paying thousands and thousands of dollars, happy to pay a reasonable price or perhaps a paying property where hunters can go. Need a hoggie and sambar to finish off the 6.

A Sambar and Hoggie to finish off with  Nothing like leaving the easy ones for last
Sorry mate, just feeling a bit jovial on a Sunday night 8) . There are some places down there that let people on, as in pay properties, some friends of mine have taken the little fellas with archery gear on these places. Sorry, I don't know the names. Surely if you contact the ADA around Sale or Bairnsdale they should be able to point you in the right direction.
Good luck with your hunt.
