it depends on what you are shooting. You must match the arrow to what you are shooting for safety reasons. Specifically with carbon arrows. Bend test them in all directions while listening and looking for cracks. Also make sure that you are using the proper spine for your bow's weight. It's not jus an accuracy issue but a safety issue. In the picture this man was doing one of two things. either shooting to low of a spine for the weight of his bow, or most likely shooting a damaged arrow that was not carefully checked before shooting. http://www.jerrysbaitandtackle.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-421
While I googled for this image I have seen quality carbon arrows blow up on bows due to improper spine and I have seen aluminum arrows break and go into a guys arm. That sed Yes you can get cheap arrows . Easton , Beman , and Gold tip are a good place to start. I perfer carbom as they are tougher and if they arnt straight then there broken. You will run into weight issues as heavy arrows seem to be the ticket in Oz. Thats ware aluminum has an advantage in my book. making arrows is not difficult at all. If you want I can send you pictures of what I use and how its done. My arrows arnt pretty but they fly true ank cleanly kill what I shoot them at. I use Beman 340 ICS Hunter shafts and a 100 grain NAP thunder head for hunting. Sorey for being long winded.

It makes sense to only shoot what you are going to hunt with.

If you were to buy cheapies to practice with while preserving the quality shafts for hunting then your accuracy will be out, better to buy quality and use them for both.

I also like Bemans, the ICS 300 camo as I prefer a heavier shaft, very good quality without the high price tag.

It's a good idea to make sure you familiarise yourself with the laws and regulations of the state you live in too.

The most basic is that hunting of native animals (roos, wallabies etc) is illegal.

There are others pertaining to NSW that might be wise for you to find out before you head bush.

Also if you could find a club nearby to where you live there are always loads of people willing to help you out with gear selection and technique and form advice.

We have a number of blokes on here from the Syndey area that might be able to point you in the right direction mate ;)

cheers
