View Full Version : R License
Well I did my test for my r license on sunday. The test was conducted at HVTA grounds where im a member by Chris(gnome).
There is no cost to do the test to members there.
It took about 40 minutes all up and some study was necessary from the book.A lot of the questions are common sence.
Has anybody actually taken any game from these state forests that they've opened up?

Not with my bow, but with a rifle, 3 deer and some rabbits :)
I just booked 4 days in a local forest, downloaded the map and see that they have banned hunting in the main deer areas of the forest...
Yep
A couple of bunnies with a bow. And with a weekend camping this weekend watch this space....

The GC doesn't decide where in a forest the hunters can go, Forests NSW decide that based on what areas their workmen are going to be in each 3 month period. They try to work in with what the hunters want, but really they are just going about their business and hunters just have to put up with the inconveniance.
The area is actually a permanent exclusion zone and not an indicative work area..It actually surrounds the only parcel of private farmland in the forest so I guess they are trying to protect the property owner to some degree..
Understood... thanks boys.

Don’t get too disheartened Sparra, the exclusion zones are known to change and that area may be opened up again later.
Here is an example
This is Micalong forest 6 months ago

And this is that forest now

I had it where on the map the “no hunting zone” had not change but when I arrived to hunt the SF workers were doing road works in the area that I wanted to hunt and they had put up the yellow “no hunting beyond this point” singes.
To say I let the odd choice word fly was an understatement. But we are privileged to have legal hunting access to the SF and it will only take one to not adhere to the rules and we could all loose this privilege. You just have to take the good with the bad.
But SF have been good to me with only one unsuccessful SF hunt out of 5. With either pigs or goats taken or at east put a good stalk in on game sighted.
One of the best thing about it is you do not have to call property owners and get permission, as you just jump on the net and book, print permit and go. In a lot of cases the SF are much larger areas to hunt than any of the private holdings in the area.

Jeff,
I've only taken a goat, but have seen pigs and signs of deer.
If you ever want to go for a walk let me know, If you wanted we could have a hunt on a Saturday and you could stay at home and go to the trad club on the Sunday.
Just let me know
Wellsy
ok will do.maybe in a month or 2 we could go for a hunt. :D
