Well,
I may have got my wish (along with a few other S.A. hunters.)
I head off for my week on the fallow at the end of next week.

The extended forecast today said that instead of the 30-40 degree temps we have been having, next week will be mid to high 20's, with nights down to 15. Now that is for Adelaide. Where i am going should be 5 degrees or so cooler.

Hopefully the cool change will trigger the rut a week or two early.

When i am getting there should be about 1-2 weeks before the scheduled start. Let's hope it gets going a week early.

We can always hope!

This cool weather does look good hey :) Don't worry too much that you are going before the traditional start Puk, the bucks will be doing all the scraping and patroling by then (they are starting here already) and before the rut hits it's peak the deer's antlers are in their best nick. It only takes one good fight to knock a few spellers off and ruin the new look of a good rack, so lots of trophy guys like to get in before the action hots up

I am also told that the pre-rut might be the best time to try the doe call, at least in the U.S. As once the rut is in full swing the bucks already have their harems organised and are more intent on doing the deed than adding to them, so if i don't go real well i will be sure to give it a try.

But i am hopeful, and it is looking good.

Regarding the weather change - Rumour is that we are now going to get the other end of El Nino - instead of hot and dry - cold and wet with awesome storms.

Canberra this week has been a perfect example of the storms - thunderstorms all week and a couple of days ago 3 feet of Hail covering the CBD...

Bring on the storms and rain....preferably at night outside of hunting times....
