From what I have been told, the skin is tanned as a trophy, the meat is eaten and the skull is bleeched and put into a display cabinet. Everything is utilised, no waste and they are a sustainable animal, plenty of them and it keeps there numbers in check. I cant see a problem.

If it was legal in Australia and they were in good numbers at hunting time I'd give it ago for sure. The croc would go to good use along the lines of Howies post.

Didn't like that footage at all though and wouldn't hunt crocs in the same way if legal.

I would probably have a go at hunting them, if I knew for sure that a kill shot could be taken, but I sure a **** wouldn't be harpooning it and tying it off to a float so it can be skull draged in by some lackies :(

I bet they taste like chicken....

I have heard through several channels that the Croc population is really growing in FNQ/ NT. Would i shoot one?? not with a fishing arrow!!

Looks like they baited them right up to the hide :(

As with the majority of the African game taken in guided hunts - the meat would be recycled back into the local community as would a chunk of the HEFTY trophy fee.

I would love to have a go at hunting a croc but i'd rather try and stalk it on land than shoot it in the water.

By the croc numbers in the top end now i'm not suprised if one day there will be some quota's for hunting them soon.

I heard am outfitter applied for licences to cull crocs in some areas of the top end where numbers are starting to get out of control, some big money was involved, but the greenies got wind and shut it down.

respectably im interested to know what ways would u blokes consider would be the right way to hunt these crocs .

macka says he would like to hunt them on land, lets look at that..crocs live either in the water or sun them selves very close to the water.so say u put in a good stalk whilst he is on land and a good shot on him with a broadhead, unless u spined him and he was unable to move,he would make a run for the safty of the water and then ud have the task of getting him out.they often will sink to the bottom in most instances.

next lets take a shot at them in the water, again with just a broadhead tipped shaft,if u managed a instant kill shot, again most likly sink to the bottom.

and let s not forget how hard they are to stalk into for a shot, extremely wary. so i reckon in most cases you would need a bait set up,all depends on ur time factor

personally i reckon hitting them with a combined broadhead/barbed heavy fiberglass fishing arrow attached to a heavy duty line with either a buoy attached or have the line then attached to a heavy line so u could retrieve the animal.

i reckon u have to treat him just the same as u would any water borne game, attached line ,etc etc.

interested in ur thoughts especially from guys who live and hunt in croc country

pat :)

I can hear poor old Steve Irwin spinning in his grave.

I have no opinion on the matter, but boy it would be hard to ever legalise now, don't you think?

I guess if you lung shot him, he would maybe have to come up quicker for air?
I wouldnt hunt one, because they're native. Ironically, if I wanted too, I could ,while I'm here. :D

I think you spot on there pat :D I doubt anyone would be able to stalk them on the mud banks anyway you would sink in that stuff! the pro croc shooters of old used to shoot for the snout and try and blow it off :( this would force the croc to make for land as he would be unable to submerge and then dispatch them on the bank :( I don't think it will ever take off and IMHO I hope it never does!

I agree with that.
We can be hunters without resorting to killing animals like crocs. And elephants and hippo's and lion.
We have more than enough feral/introduced species to hunt, surely.

Just my 10 cents.(My 2 cents is free)
