Parking my ute at the gate Questions and I jumped out the car and got ready for the walk in to some prime deer country. It was about 5am and still very dark. We had a torch as I thought we fall over enough while hunting let alone walking in the dark and got a bit of video of this fox on the way in. Under the light he didn’t seem real fussed.

Just as it began to get light we busted 2 doe’s and a fawn and it seemed like everywhere we looked from then on we saw deer. After glassing around the general area I shot my spiker in last time we had seen about 12 to 15 deer and a mob of goats. We did not see one stag they were mostly always a doe and half grown fawn on their own.
Here is a doe and fawn, pic taken off video(sorry about the quality)

As it warmed up and the sun rose higher above the hills the deer all retreated back into the scrub and disappeared like ghosts and not one buck with them. We decided to go and look for a goat or two near the water and on our way we spooked this lone billy which I will be keeping an eye out for the rest of the rut.

The clock had only just struck 10:00am and it was already bloody hot so we decided to call it a day as Questions had to be home by 2pm anyway. Not far from the car we came across a small mob of a couple nannies and half grown kids. Simon had first shot as we wanted some dog meat and I caught some footage of him nocking over a young fawn coloured kid. I then swapped the camera for my bow and he got some footage of me shooting a black nanny. Off with the legs and home before 12:00.
Here is a pic taken off the video you can see my fletches just about to disappear behind her shoulder. And the result a short time later below.

We were very pleased with the deer numbers and the goats just topped it off. This hunt happened 2 weeks ago now and I’m going back in there for a solo hunt tomorrow to see if the stags are starting to move in now. Thanks for viewing.
