View Full Version : Picturest of interest(new pics 10.02.07)
These are a few pictures I got while hunting a few weeks back. Not that uncommon but still a little off the normal, and thought some might be interested to see the tactics of Australian natives and the destruction on some ferals.
They are holes dug by kangaroos to reach cool clean water in harsh outback western Australia. The water in lying under a dry river bed and on inspecting it was cool even in the 49 degree heat, it also smelt and looked very clean. It seemed to be held there by a huge flat rock under the surface and running gently. Its most likely filtered by tons of sand that lie in the rivers bed.
Anyways the kangaroos dig them out and reach the water (which they depend on for there life) once they start drinking the Goats butt them out of the way and drink the water. In the process of goat and goat fighting over water they cave the dig out back in.

You can see here that the goats don't drink from the right side of the wells, were as the kangaroos and wallabies always enter and drink from the dig out side of the wells, not the high side.

They came through now.
That is so cool how the goats and the roos/wallabies drink from either side of the water hole like that.
Truley Awsome picks Adam thanks.

Yeah I thought so, kind of shows you too that Natives fit in with the enviroment (drink from the dig side). Where as goats just drink from anyside and cave the hole in. (the holes go on and angle and cave in easy from the top side). I think its a perfect example of native vs feral.

adam is that in all cases? no offence meant what so ever..surely goats are native somewhere and have some natural instints, what im saying surely they would do the same from where ever they are from...
eg,brumbies horses arnt native here, but they will dig and find water
pat :?:
Not sure on elsewhere pat but from all accords they have not the same skills as the natives were I hunt them, Instead they compete with the roos on there water source. I think they generally lack the sence to drink from the right side on the water hole is more to what Im saying.
I have seen goats do other smart things though, like stomp the ground to reach natural salt etc, but am yet to see one dig for water.

And it would be worth every minute.
I also travel 4 hrs some times 10 -12 for the same privelage.
A new picture of what some might find interesting. It seems to be a multi layer of lava bubbles that has turned into solid rock. I put it back were I found it which was in that hole under my hand, it fit in there perfectly.
I thought it was pretty cool and interesting how it formed.
