Went for a hunt with a few of the lads on the weekend,Rin,Johnno and Adrian to our new hunting property at Mudgee.
Me and Adrian arrived before sundown on Friday arvo and went for a scout around. We were checking one area of a large paddock when i spotted a fallow buck not 60 metres away up a small gully.
I must say they are BEAUTIFUL creatures as this was the first one ive ever seen.
We were in the 4wd when we spotted it so kept on driving a little way before we stopped. Then I grabbed my bow and went back.
It wasnt phased by a car going past and when i went back it had only moved a little way and was under some trees.
It couldnt see me and i reckon i got to 30 metres but with an obscured view.
The wind was all over the place and it must have smelt me.It ran out and up the bank stopping side on at about 40m and i daresay if i was a compound shooter theres a good chance i would have bagged it .Pretty much an easy shot but i hear they jump the string so who knows.
The next day i took a nanny but the goats were few.Apparently a heap have been rounded up.
That evening we got permission from a neighbor complaining that the deer were eating her garden to shoot on her place and we saw 6 fallow there in the morning and again the following morning. One decent stag in the bunch.
I put in a stalk and cracked the tiniest twig. They just knew something was up.Maybe next time we will wait where they cross the fence :D
Heres a pic of my goat and a big goanna
