Well i have now forfilled my goal that i set myself for this year, which was to ground a fallow stag. After the hunt with brownie on sat. and not seeing many deer at all i thought it was time for a change of scenery. So i rang my uncle who has a few deer on his property usually and thought i might get lucky. This property is very open and there are only deer every now and then that pass through it so i was not really expecting to find anything but more to just have a fish for some redfin allong his creek.
Well what can i say i diddn't have to wait long driving allong the road in through some small rocky hills there is a thick plantation of tree's about 200m to my left and out the front of it was a big white shape. it was getting very late now and i only had about 20m of shooting light left so i parked my ute and quickly jogged around the back of the scrub and slowly stalked my way through. As i got to the edge of the scrub where i thought he was i drew my bow back before i poked my head out and there he was. What a monster i thought to myself and thats when i started to shake.. He lifted his head and looked straight at me. It was feeding front on to me and although not my preferred angle it was now or never. I estimated 40m and sent the outback supreme on its way! the arrow flew very high hitting the big stag in the throat, causing him to nose dive as he went to take off. He ran right over the top of the fence to the plantation and ran into the thick scrub. Because it was so dark now i decided to leave him an hour or so and come back with a torch later as there was a good blood trail and i was pretty confident that it was a fatal blow. Well the next 2 hours were the slowest 2 hours of my life waiting to go and look for it. Returning to where i shot the stag there was a consistant trail of blood and walking through the plantation the trail headded up towards the rocky rise. Sweeping my torch over the ground i picked up a big white body and an awsome set of antlers to match! What a relief i thought to myself. And first thing i did was call brownie to tell him the good news!
Here is a pic i took that night with the flash.

I left him there until morning to get a few pics in the daylight. Here is a couple of them.

I dont know anything about scoring so wouldnt have a clue what he would go. This is by far the biggest achievement i have had in bowhunting. The funny thing is after all the km's i have walked and all the hunting and scouting trips i have had. This was my first hunt on this property and i only had to walk about 500m. I guess you can be just lucky some times..
