During the week Stoka and I decided it would be good to get out over the weekend for a bit of a hunt and look around to check out a new area to us both.We decided Saturday morning would be the go with me agreeing to pick Stoka up at 5.30 am.After Fridays warm weather we were hoping for a bit of a cooler day.Waking at about 4am I could hear the rain belting down outside and against all better judgement roled out of bed packed the car and headed off to pick up Jesse.Arriving at our destination just over an hour later we decided to sit in the car for the rain to ease off and for the first hint of morning light. As daylight approached we geared up and headed off to a old logging area in the hope of catching sambar still feeding on the new growth, after a stalk around this area and not sighting anything movement at all except for the continual rain we headed back to the car and moved off to check out another spot we had in mind.Starting off down a track the rain started to ease and we slowly made our way futher into the bush in complete silence only rousing one wallaby along the way and a lyrebird, still moving down the track slowly we wher both a little more than suprised and unprepared whan a sambar took off from within about 4 metres of us with all to be seen was the rear end dissapearing and being swallowed by the bush in less time it took to blink. We checked out where the deer had bolted from thinking that we must have moved it from its bed but after crefully checking the area could find no bedding area and cnme to the conclusion it must have been grazing just of track we where on.we continued on for a while longer before heading back to the car and off home looking forward to cuppa and a warm shower. Thanks for the company Stoka and the fox whistles Adam has already worked it out and has spent most of the arvo driving me the missus and the dog absolutley mad.
