hi guys ,
While driveinghome form a mates place last night after playing and tuning bows all afternoon i spyed a coulple of young guys (20's)playing with a compound about 150 yards of the road in front of a shed .
thinking no more of it we carryed on doewn the raod aprox400 yards and saw an arrow in the center of the other lane.
I slowed and did a u-turn and after checking the traffic was clear i stopped in the middle of the road ,opened the door ,leanded out and gained my selfe an aliminium arrow.
another u-turn and we watched as the group in front of the shed fanned out across the paddock ,obviously looking for arrows.
the next vehical we passed was a b-double feul tanker

....consider if you will the downward velocity of an earth bound arrow and a fulley laden b-double traveling at 100 km inthe opposite direction ,wiht the possiton of the arrow on the road i haveno doubt it WOULD have went thru a windscreen and .....well ...whuddr tothink of the potential disaster that may have unfolded .

Question..........SHOULD I HAVE REPORTED THIS to the local police or should i let it pass .?
if it had have been less than 3-4 minutes later ...who knows what or where that b-double would have ended up
i know the local disrtic fire arms officer where i am ...should i have aquiet word so tthe young fella can have a vist and some explanatins as to what MAY HAVE HAPPENED

Yeh mate deffinatley went back and had a yarn to them. Its up to all of us to protect our sport the best possible way we know how. That means going out of our way to steer the uneducated. cheers.

I agree witht the others that have already posted. I would go back and had a discussion.

Do you still have the arrow?

If so you are still in a position to go back and have a friendly heart to heart and try to set the lads right and present them with the evidence of your concerns.

However should this not be effective I would definately hold onto the arrow to front up with it to the local cop shop or your firearms mate.

Having an emergency background I often see "accidents" that could be prevented if people use some common sense. (although common sense isn't that common anymore).

I think as bowhunters we all have a duty of care to ensure that when we witness this type of behaviour we try to do something about it to ensure that the publics perception isn't tainted by the stupidity of the ignorant few. JMO

Yeah gone back and discussed it, and if they didn't take it on board what you had to say I would have called the police. I put the welfare of others way before the name of this sport. These guys are just idiots with bows, well uneducated anyways.

I agree with the other posts , they were probably excited to be shooting and hadn't considered the consequences.

Yes,have a quiet chat first and if that doesn't succeed then you have every right to take it further.

As Adam said the welfare of others is far more important than someone being irresponsible.

i say bugger the quite chat i would have went back and tore them a new one for there stupidity.....obviously anyone that is stupid enough to fire an arrow into the air like that is not going to take a heart to heart and listen to it. i would say now is a bit late but i would go to the cops explain who you are and let the cops go scare them now and hopefully tell the parents of the owner who will take it of him...
