What glue do I use to put the feathers on my carbons for the CheckMate?
Will my fletchtite platinum work?
Do I need to do anything to prep the arrows or feathers?
Thanks...
Bill

Hey Bill,

What i use is 1000 grit wet & dry sandpaper to clean the shaft & get the gloss of it. Than i clean off with Prepsol, it's auto spray painters stuff for removing all grease & wax before painting. I also give the vein a lite wipe with same. I also use the Platinum glue. Apply to the vein , i am sure you know the rest. My tip is after dried, apply small drop of glue to the front leading edge of the vein, this also assists in stopping it lifting. As you have seen my shafts in action i am sure this will work foryouself

I just use shock proof super glue for feathers to carbon, or loctite. Just clean my shafts the once over with metho and rag. You couldn't pull them off with pliers.

No cresting just plain shaft mate, certain glues eat the paint is all.

I use the locktite 406 , but It is a bit runny i was told that it comes as a gel so next time I will get that. I use normal supa glue when fletching on wraps.

I also use the Loctite 406, brilliant stuff. No prep cleaning needed. Yes it is very runny and I found the glue will run down the vane because of the angle of the jig and stick it to the clamp, but alas I jacked the back of the jig up to near flat and it corrected the problem, havent had a vane stick to the clamp since. Just got to make sure the clamp fits into the slot correctly. And like Adam said even pliers wont get them off.

Bil I have been using fletchtite fletching tape,no glue to run and stick to the clamp and have had no probs with feathers letting go.I still dab a little glue to the front and rear of feather.

I use loctite 454 which is the gel version of the 406. I find it works exceptional well.

Cheers Tim

Yes mate your fletchtite platinum will work fine.

I use Loctite gel as well, its very easy to apply with the same strength as 406 but with out the runs and the white discolouration left on the shaft. :D

I have used superglue gel when I've run out of the loctite, it works just as well and I can fletch about a dozen arrows with a small tube from the supermarket for only a few dollars.

I use loctite 401/406 and as Paul said it runs a little and turns a white dusty looking effect once dry.

I gave up on glue a couple of years ago in favour of fletching tape. Does not matter what arrow are made of all glues are a royal pain in the butt to clean off if you ever have to refletch , use the fletching tape never had a failure with it . regards Perry

All you have to do with fletching tape is place the fletch in a clamp , run the tape along the fletch trim it , peel the backing and put on your shaft , a dob of fletchtite or similar each end if you wish done - quick ,no mess no fuss . I tape up a few dozen fletches in advance . regards Perry
