It was Easter Friday and Casey decided to take me camping/hunting north of Quorn. We arrived at the property to get the key off the owners but could not find them. As we sat and waited for the owners we heard some goats up in the hills so we decided to go for a look as it was nearing dark. Casey powered off in front of me in search for the goats. I met him up the hill where the goats were standing with attention on us since we had no camo.
Casey drew back lining up a nanny, releasing his arrow, with the shot hitting the nanny square in the chest. I was next to him with the camera trying to catch a picture of him drawing upon the nanny, here is a picture of him drawing but the nanny was behind a bush in the shot but a billy is in full view.

As we were taking the pictures the property owners pulled up along side of our car, as we were not in talking distance they drove off, as they did not know where we were.
Here is a picture of the nanny Casey got for meat.

We managed to get hold of the property owners and set up camp just before dark here is a picture of camp the next day.

Easter Saturday we left camp at about 9am the air was still fresh and crisp we walked along a huge ridge and found a few goats but none had decent horns in the mob so we left them to grow for another days hunt.
We came across another group of goats a bit later, we put in a stalk nice a close and Casey made a shot on a young billy hitting him really low in the chest, after about an hours search we still came up empty handed as the thick scrub had swallowed him up. After viewing the shot on the video camera, Casey is certain that the shot was good and we probably walked past him in our search. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful goat wise but we walked around on the south end of the property as I took some pictures of some unreal scenery.
Here is a cliff that casey thought it would be fun to climb, or more fun to try and scare the hell out of me.

Easter Sunday started off pretty slow not seeing any goats for the first half of the morning.
On our way back down to camp we came across a mob of goats mainly billies, we stalked them for a good half an hour. Finally the goats emerged from the scrub giving Casey a broadside shot from 20 metres his expandable broadhead only penetrated about half an inch into the billies shoulder and fell out within two metres of the billy running off.
After that Casey was very disappointed with the expandable broadhead using fowl language to show is disgust.
After his little outburst we decided to head back to camp to pack up and leave. On the way back to camp the plans had changed for Casey as he spotted another mob and headed up into the hills as I went back to pack up and wait for him so I will let him tell you how it went from here.

After leaving Tara I followed the moving mob for about a kilometre until they slowed enough to check out the quality of the goats. There were a dozen or so big-bodied billies with most having a spread between 23 inch to 28inch. There was one big black fella, which I seem to come across every time I hunt this place with a spread of around the 32-inch mark but he had always outsmarted me. I had to put in the hard yards and make it to the top of a big cliff topped ridge to intercept them, which I managed to do after a lot of puffing and sweating. I moved out of the dense native pine’s to see I was half way along the mob and I just got a glimpse of the big fella disappear over the rise at the front of the mob. I spotted a few big-bodied billies with average horns and saw one had a broken tip. I thought I would let the others grow and try and take him, as he will never have a perfect set. When he came into the clear it all came together as he stopped and scratched his back with his horn giving me a perfect broadside shot from 30m. The carbon shaft zipped through him to disappear over the cliff edge on his opposite side and he was down within 30m. The outback supreme had done the job a lot better than the expandable head I tried the shot before. I set up some rocks and took some self timed photo’s. Maybe I’ll get that big black fella next time.. or the time after that…
Here he is one less feral for the rock wallabys to compete with.

On my walk back to camp long the creeks I took some more scenery shots as I am usually by the beach and do not get to see much of this countryside. When I got back I packed our bags and tidied things up ready for Casey to do the heavy lifting. When Casey returned he filled me in on what had happened and showed me his pictures.
Then we finished packing up camp, drove around taking more photos then headed home for some rest. It was a very excited and memorable weekend and i'm in the process of conning casey into buying me a bow
