I went for a look around for some reds on Friday and camped in the gorge overnight to see if the reds were roaring as we had not heard a peep out of them yet in this area. They made no noise all day or evening so after a few drinks and a feed we decided to give roaring a go.Now I have never roared for reds and neither had my mate but he gave it a go with a cow horn he had brought with him.Within 2 minutes of his roar we heard a faint roar back and we were both a bit shocked and impressed.Wayne roared again and this time a much closer roar was heard and over the next half hour it was clear that this guy was coming down the gorge towards us.As we did not want him in camp at 10pm we stopped calling him and went to bed with the plan to chase him in the morning now that we knew his location.Due to the morning breeze it was a very long way around to come down the gorge to his location but when we got to almost the bottom of the gully and about 100 mtrs from camp we heard a little roar.We roared back and we could hear him crashing through the bush on his way back to the bedding area that we had found on the way down the gully that now held an intruder stag.(US)
As luck would have it he passed on the other side of the gully so no shot was presented but I got to watch through my new binos(I LOVE them) as he roared at us for about 5 minutes before proceding on up the gully out of reach.
The reason for all this rambling is leading to a question.........finally.
How many guys actually roar the stags up if nothing is happening?
I will from now on and have made a roaring horn to do so and have been practicing in the shed(My wife thinks I have now completley lost my mind)
Cheers KIM
