Thought I'd put some pics up and a few words about todays 'Goat hunt get together' :D
RazorX (Jase), hutcho (Pete), bowhunting4eva (John), John's old man, and myself got together for a bit of a stomp through the scraggy, shale covered slopes of mid NSW after some goats.
Myself, hutcho and RazorX made the trip from the ACT planning to meet bowhunting4eva and his dad at the property. Both vehicles pulled up and after a few eager hand shakes we geared up and got walking.
First up we had to get our feet wet crossing the river and then continued along the dusty pads well worn by many a hoof.
We walked a while and after the initial chatting between keen bowhunters a silence came over us as we ducked branches looking and listening for the prey species.
A fox whistle here and there is a good idea...

After following a goat screetch up a steep hill amongst the stunted gums and rock of the landscape we sat for a well deserved breather. Trudging even higher we finally spotted 3 small goats fleeing the scene into a gully unknown. RazorX and I pushed down hill to cut off these beasties with the other boys following the direct line the 3 young'un's took.
RazorX soon spotted a good bunch of goats, billy's, nannies... the whole shooting match, so I slid down the loose sided slope and made my way up to the goats. A top billy, both horn wise and colour of hide (approx 32"/pure jet black 8) ) was above me, and he snorted loudly and turned over the crest taking a few goats with him.
Much calf busting hill running/sliding proceeded to take place  without these billies being caught up :(
Moving back along the river RazorX and I (having lost the other three blokes  ) almost ran into the next small mob that were taking it easy on the dusty pads along the muddy river's bank. Jase moved in, as did I, and with a bit of confusion (having not hunted together before) he released unbeknown to me and hit a big bodied white (with a dark mane) billy of high 20's inches angling away, burying the arrow up to the fletches. We searched, and looked for blood from a well hit animal, but we simply could not find the billy.
:(
Stumbling over rocks, I looked across the river's flood zone and saw a big bodied nannie sneaking away from our position. I jumped at the chance of hopefully blooding the Drenalin and nocked an arrow, and chased after the goat.
Well I got into a shooting lane surrounded by tee-tree and put a shaft straight through her at 30m, she went straight down, and within seconds I put another arrow through her chest just to make sure.
The dren is blooded, I'm very pleased about the whole stalk/shot
:!: :D :D
