This is just a thread to let our fellow members know alittle more about who each of us are. The net can be a hard place to get an idea of who we may actually be talking with.
The aim is to shed some light on how we became bowhunters aswell as some more details about ourselves. ie :location, how long bowhunting, favourite game, how often we hunt, occupation ...
This is just meant as a little "get to know each other" excercise, and i hope to hear from you.
May aswell kick things off myself ..
Started bowhunting 1993 when i literally got sick of killing things with a gun, it was just too simple. Shot my first bunny with a bow the same year and have been hooked ever since. Got a pile of bowhunting mags that could support a house and truly love the sport. I live just south of Sydney and manage a hardware supply warehouse (if you need hinges let me know ;) ) I mainly hunt goats once or twice a month, but have bagged a few good pigs aswell. Not married, no kids (that i know of) Love a beer and well thats about it .. (and yes i have been seen in womens clothing  ) (and i obviously enjoy a good laugh, even at my own expense)
Well i may get a few replies, and i hope i do.
Cheers, Cam

Hi all, good idea Cam. Well i havent actually started bowhunting yet, i have just bought my first bow. I've done alot of diving and spearfishing, my sea legs got tired to i returned to land and did a bit of target rifle shooting, thought bowhunting and archery in general would be a bit more of a challnge. Im not very good yet but i am practising. I own a small business and have a daughter, im not married, i love beer also and because of that have also been seen in womens clothing. Nothing suss

I have always hunted whit rifle and pistol but got back in to bow hunting when I lived in Katharine in the late 90Ă*s and have not stopped. Some of the fun places I have hunted and fished are West Africa and Papua New Guinea. I now live in Kalgoorlie working in my trade as a boilermaker. Yes I love a drink and no ladies clothes yet.

Thanx fellas,
I wouldnt mind hearing from some of our other members. Just a quick outline of how you got into bowhunting, and maybe alittle more about yourself... just to slightly fill the void that internet conversation can create.
Cheers, Cam
I have hunted since i was about 6, but decided to trade in the rifles a few years ago, and went out for a hunt with Adam and saw him shoot a fallow spiker, I was hooked from then on.
I work in the hospitality industry.
I go hunting about once or twice a week, and start to get the ****s if work gets in the way and i cant get out for a hunt :x

im 22, live in Melbourne, and just started a carpentry apprenticeship. ive been into archery and bowhunting for about 5 years now and can honestly say i don't think i'll ever give it up.
i started off shooting a ben pearson compound, then bought myself a jennings compound before losing patience with it (turned out to be twisted limbs), traded it in for a horton crossbow which i usually hunt with, and also now shoot a martin barebow recurve.
i like to get away at least once a month hunting, and when it gets to this time of year i try to get away for a day trip every weekend chasing the sambar. i think im close to getting one but its never close enough.
im usually successful hunting rabbits, hares, and foxes, and am dying for the chance to take the curve into NSW and get onto some pigs and goats.
i still live at home with my old man and sister, and usually spend almost every night with my fantastic girlfriend of 4 years. occasionally i talk her into a weekend away 'camping', but the bow always finds its way into the boot.
Good one Cam.. I've had a 30 year love affair with archery and bowhunting. Bought my first and thus far, only bow at 16 and for about the next 10 years ran amuck in the bush with delusions of Ian Fenton and Dallas Conway. After a particularly cold hunt on a hot day coupled with too many beers, the bow got baked and buckled and thereafter remained in the cupboard. A few marriages later, coupled with a few different careers and a stint working o/s sees me now having fixed the curve and trying to reignite the spark of my former passion. I have my own business and live on the north shore. I also hear Cam you may be heading down to Homebush on the weekend if this rain clears..looking forward to saying g'day. :!: [/i]

Hi guys,
I have had a rifle since I was 10. I spent a few years in the army and after I left the army I tried to get a gun licence after being told that I would have to join a club, do a basic safety and a range controllerĂ*s course. To top that my qualifications from the military would not be recognised so I got out of hunting altogether. In 2000 a mate from work asked if I would like to go out to the local archery club. The next day I bought my first bow. About six month later when my gear (and my accuracy) was sorted out I went hunting pigs. I have been hooked totally ever since. I now hunt whenever family and work commitments allow. I have just started to bow hunt for fish as I live on the coast in central Queensland. So far I have taken 8 pigs, 2 rabbits, 1 fox and 2 stingrays and have spent a lot of time walking through the bush. I would like to hunt goats. My ultimate hunt would be to have a go at deer.
If the weather holds I will be walking the sand flats tomorrow morning bow in hand and at peace with the world. If I am successful I will post some picks and have a rum or seven. If not, then a few to drown my sorrows.
Spud.
I'm 32 in August, Married and first child due anyday now. Live in Adelaide.
Apart from fishing I hadn't done any oter form of hunting. I only took up the bow and hunting with it just under 4 years ago, after many many many many years of thinking about it. Have been kicking myself ever since that I never got into it earlier. And am now 200% totaly addicted.
The main reason I finaly gave it a go was that due to a car accident I am now not allowed to play any of the sports that I use to such as cricket, football etc etc. (bad...... no a stuffed back). I absolutely love target shooting and the hunting side of it, it's just so great to get out doors and enjoy nature and all that it has to offer a guy out walking his bow. I havn't taken a lot of game in the last 4 years, but have enjoyed every single time that I get out for a hunt/walk. The peace the solitude and lack of dead lines is the best part of getting out hunting.
There is plenty more about me but I might bore you with all the crap.

g'day all
I live in Wallacia...soon to be Silverdale.I'm a boilermaker by trade.
I have been hunting since i was about 8 or so...Most of the hunting has been done with rifles until around two years ago when i baught my first compound bow off ebay.Since then i have been hooked on bowhunting and all its bits and pieces.
When i was a young lad,i used to go rabbit trapping and shooting with my granddad around the West Wyalong area, and shooting with my dad and brother around Oberon.I've been out and about Bourke,Coonabarabran,Hungerford..etc..
I've only had one bow...shall i say "trophey",to date...a small billy, but hoping soon to further the collection.
I go with a few friends to hillend area, where there seems to be quite a few goats, foxes, lil fluffies...odd deer and pigs...so that particular property is a big bonus to us.
As always we use care and common sense in all our outtings, wether it be guns or bows.
But at the end of the day....i just love being out in the scrub.

Im james, ive been into guns and bows and hunting and knifes since i could remember but i never realy got to the bow side of things untill it was close to my birthday and i was on the net and i found this forum, well after a few weeks of posting my rear end off i organised a meet with hood at the bow club and i was hooked instantly. the only thing that stopped me was fitness our club is very steep on the first corse before lunch and it realy buggers ya. i tell you i was lieing down while other people were taking their shots i was so buggered. but since then i had to get my studies in check and a lot of other stuff. Since then ive started eating healthy and started walking upwards of 3 times a day walking about 2kms each time, a lot of it is uphill. Im a student im 14, im in year 11, I aspire to become a commercial lawyer and one day move out of this over regulated country and move where my chosen profession can thrive, anyway yeah im a student ive not been on a bowhunt yet, simple answer is because im not ready and i know it and i refuse to gain acess to a property untill i am deemed capable by hood (sort of my mentor i guess), I was into fishing for a while, i used to love it even though i cought absolutely nothing a few squid in a few years off the jetty but i used to get out there and give it my best and used the teqniques i read in books. I spearfished for a while too i miss spear fishing that was good fun but just didnt have the time.
(isnt it funny how a lot of my posts go into short stories and vear off into nowhere then return to the point )
I'm 31, have a few uni / post tertiary Degrees (cant remember how many) been self emplyed as a financial planner since I was 25 when I finished studying full time.
Having gone strait from Uni to being a business owner, I never really had the chance to travel and had never experience the bush.
My 7 year old son wanted to have a go at Archery about 18 months ago and Ive been hooked ever since.
Adam and Luke from this forum too me on my first hunt just under a year ago and that got me hooked on the bush and bowhunting.
Love my wife Julie and two kids Jakob 7 and Ella 5 months (she is in my arms as I type).
In the past Ive studied Kung Fu for 10 years as well as 3-4 other styles over the years. These days Tai Chi is about the extent of what I will do.
Also raced remote control cars for years.

Im 36 have lovely wife & 3.5 year old twins,im a pannel beater by trade and a marine studies teacher by choise.I grew up in Biloela and firt hunted with rifle at 8,then bow hunted on our farm rabbits and cats etc,pig hunted with dogs in my teens and early twenties.Sold guns took up triathlon never to look back ,8 tears later i joined the wide bay bow hunters met some top hunters.I now hunt some great country with some great mates and have 2 bow hunters in the making.doesnt get much better.
Got into Bowhunting in 93 through my old mans work mate. did the usual joined a club went on the committee etc, then had enough of it all, just wanted to shoot. met my ex wife through archery and had a son jack , who is now keen as about archery and hunting. Shot my first boar when i went out hunting with my uncle(rifle shooter) about a month after i started. Did not take his jaw as i did not even know tusk were in the jaw, just thought he had only inch or 2 cause that was all i could see. Wish this site was around then. Met some of my best mates threw bowhunting . Now i only get out once or twice a year to hunt, i am just waiting for my son to be old enough then i can go every second weekend like the good old days. Enjoy a bit of fishing and living through the other hunters on this forum cause i cannot get out into the bush. Glad i found this site have met a lot of like minded people as passionate about bowhunting as me...........
This thread is going very nicely guys, its good to get to know a more personal side of you blokes.

I was the kid that used to shoot the neighbours (and their cats) with my home made bow.
Loved the bush from the time my Mum and Dad used to take us kids to the stations shearing sheds, on the properties they worked on, for an Outback barn dance.
I might have been conceieved and born in one of those sheds.
25 years in the printing industry, 23 years in the fitness industry, six years elite level coaching National Basketball, Junior Tennis and lecturing at TAFE in Human Performance (Level 3 Strength & Conditioning).
Four times National Masters Body Building champion, gym owner and devoted family man with four kids, oldest in the Air Force.
Archery has always been in my blood and hunting, with my uncles, is one of my earliest recollections.
I like to pride myself that I could survive in any situation in the bush.

Ive been shooting and hunting with guns as long as I remember. I joined the Army some years ago and after moving to five different states in five years I got sick of the paperwork (score for little jonny). I had a 15lb recurve as a kid which I enjoyed (but never hunted with) and found some American bowhunting sites on the net that caught my attention. I gave my guns to my dad and ask my better half for the OK. Before the permission could be revoked I jumped on ebay and bought a browning and then spent the next few months learning that it wasnt just the bow. I have now got to the stage where I can group consistently and the last few month I have been driving down to Vic every few weeks to chase the sambar. I hope to hunt more locally next year, with fallow high on my list, once I have found some places near the ACT.

In 2000 my son and I watched Simon Fairweather take Gold at the Oylmpics we then decided to take up archery. In 2001 we went to the local club, which happened to be an ABA club, we found the people there less then friendly so we joined the Fita club down the road.
I got myself a coach ( Steven Jennison) and fell in love with archery. Joined the ABA club because I could shoot there 24 7. In 2004 I joined the committee and the Manly ABA club then went over to 3DAAA. Won the 2003 3D nationals in the open division and went for my first hunt in the same year.
The thing I love about archery and hunting is the many good friends I have met on my journey so far. I met my partner Karen at a Fita shoot and since then we have been inseparable .
Im 25 this year with a 1 year old boy who I love to bits along with his mother. I like to think of myself as a family man but have friends just as close.
I've been in the building trade since I was 14 and 9 months and I like hard work, esp on a winters day. Most of the day is spent laughing even when the boss is working with me.
I'd like to be a mans man, one of the lads. Non of this smooth skin and shaved legs, I want working hands a moustach
I spent most of my younger years living on the land chasing rabbits wood ducks and most of the fish that lived in the rivers running through. My pops pop was a hunter and its never faded through the sons yet.
Even moving from the land to the city I still spend most of my spare time in the bush, hunting, photographing, camping fishing and any other excuse to get amounst it.

I have been hunting since I was 5 years old.Have used rifles, shotguns all my life.Took up the bow in 1974 and have used it hunting ever since. If I use a firearm now it is not for hunting,it is used for culling whatever the property owner requests as long as it is legal.
I am 47 years young and hunt with an Oneida Black Eagle[2005 model] and I have a Reflex Raider also set up as a hunting bow. Also have a Jennings Carbon Extreme that I have taken many goats, pigs, foxes, fallow deer a couple of scrub bulls, rabbits and cats.Have taken several wild dogs and the odd dingo.
I have been married for 25 years and have a girl who is 16 and twins[boy and girl] who are 13.We all love the outdoors camping, hunting and fishing and bushwalking.I live 2 hours west of Brisbane and I get to look after the kids since 1999 after I had a serious back injury at work.
I grew up on a sheep and cattle property near Texas and my Dad taught me a lot about hunting before he passed away.My brother in law took me under his wing after that and he took me pig hunting with him during school holidays. He lived at Talwood and pigs were in plague proportions back then.I have been involved in the local archery club in several positions and I now shoot with Darling Downs Field Archers in Toowoomba when time permits.Shot 3DAAA for several years but after my back injury I gave up all the travelling.
Now I hunt with my eldest daughter and my wife with the bows and the twins enjoy the camping.

my earliest recollection of hunting was with my dad when i was 4 or 5. we camped in the back of a ute overnight and i was given a shot at a rabbit that was long gone. shared my friends air rifle for some years after that. my first rifle, an anshutz .22 bolt action was given to me at 13 yo when my parents bought a 1200 acre property in western in nsw. i shot everything with that rifle. pigs, goats, rabbits, foxes hares, etc. i earned enough money from fox skins to buy a stirling .22 mag. then a .222 rem savage. i grew up. sold the savage and bought a sako .222. ive owned every cal or breed of rifle thats been popular. wrote an article for a shooting mag. caught lots freshwater fish, drank from many mountain streams. bowhunting is new to me. wish i had started earlier. my goal now is to take a red deer stag.

I could find and shoot a red stag easier than finding and shooting a 35inch goat. So i think your statement was false. Shure a goat is easier to shoot but then again some are not. It all depends on the stalk and the effort put in to get it. Like the last 40" goat peterm shot he went back for about 5 weekends in a row chasing him until he finally got it. Now that would be a trophy to be proud of.

I'm a 29 year old obsesive compulsive archery/computer nerd.
I started archery at 12 having grown up hearing about it from my Olympian dad (1976, finished 13th)
I fell in love with compounds first time I saw them and despite my dad's wish for me to do olympic style I wanted to bowhunt with a compound, sights and a release.
My parents said "learn to shoot first". 17 years on I'm still learning and have yet to hunt.
I've had good success with Open Freestyle including Australian Teams and winning the IFAA World Postal indoor 2 years in a row in MJFU. (including a perfect 900 for the second year)
At 18 I quit after years of being screwed by Archery Australia and other 'adults'
I played basketball and American football. Played Cornerback for Victoria and won a State title playing Free Safety and Wide Receiver.
When my girl friend/Australian Jr champ moved to Melbourne I got back into archery (21) and shot for a year before quiting again.
After suffering some nasty injuries I quit football and came back to archery in 2001 following our wedding.
The morning of my wedding I built the DVA website including a forum.
6 months later I started Archery-Forum.com using the DVA forum. I had totally written the forum software myself. Another 6 months later I changed to PHPBB.
Now I am trying to live the dream I had at 12 and run an archery shop.
Next year, I hope to go hunting for the first time. While the bug for hunting has died down since I started, I would very much like to take a goat or a pig. Even thinking about being in that situation and shooting for a National title would seem easy.
I am a twenty-eight year old Lutheran minister with a 2 year-old son, and another child due in 9 weeks.
I grew up in Hervey Bay in QLD, (where my Father was the minister), and got to love fishing. I have taken lots of just about every popular freshwater fish in Australia, except for one, which is my ambition in life- The mighty Barra.
Now i live in the middle of the S.A./Vic Mallee, miles from water, and i personally have a theory that there isn't that much difference between sport-fishing and bowhunting. It's my version of dry-land fishing. When i was a kid, i read "Grant's guide to fishes" until i could quote you the Latin name and habits and territory of every fish you could imagine. I think part of the allure of bowhunting is to compile the same body of knowledge on your target species rather than just blowing it away from a distance.
Mine at the moment is the feral goat (Capra Hircus) and the good old bunny (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and i am hanging out to get a fox (Vulpes vulpes )
I shoot a Darton Renegade at 32 inches, 70 lb draw. If you think people look at you funny when they find out you are a bowhunter, you should see how they look at you when you are a skinheaded, earring wearing, motorbike riding bowhunting minister who is trying to explain why you can be a minister and a bowhunter at the same time. (Normally over a bundy and coke).
It makes for some interesting conversations.
I want to get a lot better, then one day I'll take on the pigs (Don't know the Latin name yet.) Thanks Cam, good idea to know who we're chatting with.
PUK
i have retracted my statement as it was wrong.
i do believe a red stag is a more desirable trophy however. in my opinion.
to not voice your opinion for fear of offending someone is political corectness. realise that and you then understand why it is such a potent force. it stifles debate.

Hi, I'm Mark F.
HI MARK F,
I live in Renmark, at the moment. but move around alot.
My wife of 12 years and I own a take away shop here, and work nearly all the time. (Really enjoy that .NOT).We have 2 kids. Annie 10 and Connor 8. Ones a wanna be teenager and the others into archery. Guess which is which.
I lived in Darwin for 12 years a while ago,and hunted buff, pigs and barra. With a gun. I bought a bow there as well but couldnt hit a barn with it so I sold it 6 weeks later. 20 years ago, I reckon.
Now I hunt Stramits (Arrowus stikkus *&^%us) But am looking looking for goats and pigs (PUK- Sus Scrofa.) I've located some sign, now I need the time!
I have a toyota Fj40 with too many stickers on it,and a white antenna! .An off road trailer and a boat. All sit in the driveway, most of the time. Also a Mathews Switchback which is great.
I drink beer, but dont hang around in bars and only wear womens clothing when gardening. :D
That'll do I reckon.
Mark and Connor.
PS: when I say my wife of 12 years, I dont mean she's 12 years old.My son pointed that out.
Hi Guys,
My name is Tim. I first started bowhunting/archery 20 years ago in Katherine in the NT. I learnt to shoot with a mates old 40lb recurve before buying my very first compound a Bear Black Hunter at 50lbs. At the time my mate and I would hunt where ever and when ever we could I am sure the seniors at the club were glad when we got our drivers licenses. I upgraded my Bear to a Martin Lynx and have owned a martin bow since then I currently have 4 2 compounds, a recurve and longbow.
I moved from the Nt to Victoria with my soon to be wife in 1988 and thought it would be a good idea to go to Uni (sounded like a good idea at the time) I spent three years doing a nursing degree (don't laugh) we then moved to SA I spent 12 years working in the operating theatres ending up as the manager. I was getting bored spending what spaer time I had from working renovated our house so decided that I would drag out the old Martin and get back into the sport. First problem was the closet ABA club was an hour and a half away (the things we do for fun).
In July this year the family and I decided it was time for a move so back too Vic we came. (closer to the range as well). I am now a Director of Nursing in a small rural hospital in Western Vic.
I have 2 children that I have introduced to bowhunting Lachie 9 and Rachel 11. Access to properties is looking good so I am hopeful that I will be able to get hunting again in the new year.
Cheers Tim
Hey shaft yeah i would agree that a red stag is a more desirable trophy (in my opinion not to others maybe) but i dont think it is woth 100 goats or 50 pigs. so thanx for understanding :)
Well my real name is Casey McCallum mates call me Macka. I am 16 and just finished school 2 weeks ago (year 11) Just chilling atm and working on my farm but I will be looking for a job/ apprentice soon. I have had a rifle in my hand since I was about 10 and shot my first rabbit when I was about 8 with my fathers help. An uncle is right into bow hunting and I am good friends with nick his son and one day when I was over motorbike riding and shooting he got his old bow out and let us have some shots. That was 2 years ago now and well I was hooked, about 4 weeks later I had my very first bow a home brand thing I got off ebay. It claimed about 6 rabbits and my first goat. I then upgraded to a bear compound and took a fair bit of game with that including 2 rusa deer. Then while in Adelaide I saw a Pierson pursuit for $300 and had to have it. It served me well and I took heaps of goats with it. But my first brand new bow was Feb this year when I got my bowtech tomkat. I live near Melrose SA (flinders rangers) on a farm. My most proud moment so far was my first deer and how I stalked it for 2 hours on my guts. I hunt deer and goats and want to hunt pigs and I hope to do so in the next year. Just got my licence about 2.5 months ago and now there is no stopping me (well maybe diesel money) I have two brothers both younger Dylan who is 14 comes out on most of my hunts and I am hoping to get him his first animal in the next few weeks. Travis my other brother is at home in front of the play station. Well that’s enough dribble I’ll leave some space for someone else.

Don’t want to be seen as pulling hairs but Macka is right, that a trophy is a trophy in who ever eyes, the truth is I chased that goat twice a week for 6 weeks before I got him! But I chased my PB best fallow buck every rut for two and half years before I got him! Mine and Macka’s point is in both cases they are IMO trophies of a life time and none is better than the other.
And I’ve shot 2 awesome red deer, and the goats and fallow bucks are better IMO!

After reading an article in the old "Australian Outdoors" magazine about bow hunting, I decided to have a go at it. That was 36 years ago. I'm still trying to get it right.
I love using recurves and longbows with wooden arrows. The simpicity appeals to me. I started hunting rabbits and they're still my favourite species, even though I've hunted most Australian game at one time or another. I'm a pretty keen fisherman too.
I'm happily married with two kids (a boy and a girl). I've worked for Australia Post for 35 years, most of that time as a postie. The pay is pathetic, but I sleep well at night.
Thats about it.
Mick
I started bowhunting about 20 years ago when I bought a PSE Laser 2 compound. This bow served me well for many years, and I learnt a lot about the bush we hunt and the animals that call it home.
I successfully hunted rabbits, fox, hare, pig, goat, fish, hay bales, cow turds, and the odd wild cat :D
Several years ago I finally upgraded to a Hoyt Magnatec and after a few memorable goat hunts around the opal diggings at Whitecliffs, I turned my attention to the Vic high country and Sambar Deer. This was an incredible experience, geting close to Sambar in their backyard and them not really knowing what I was resulted in many stare downs with does at 20 metres. On these trips I would carry a judo tipped arrow for the odd rabbit, fox or pesky cow turd and this would make the days spent in the bush even more memorable. After several trips I was privileged enough to take a Spikey and will always remember my first Sambar with the bow.
I upgraded the Bow to an Ultramag cos I had to have a cam & 1/2 bow 8)
On my very first weekend away with it I managed to take a Spikey Fallow for the freezer :D
On the home front I live in the Goulburn Valley, Victoria and am an electrician at a milk factory working 12 hour shifts. 3 days on, 3 days off which gives me ample time to enjoy life. I am recently married and we are expecting our first child in February which will be a very special time for us both. We are both keen fishermen and spend a lot of time together fishing out of my Quintrex Hornet.
All in all, life is good....
Cheers, Dave
All th best on the new arrival to family Dave, hope the misses is doing well. You might have to upgrade the hornet in the near future for a bit more room, bugger :P . Cheers Scott

Great Idea, Cam!! :D
My name is Jeremy, I'm 18 and i currently live in Sydney's west.
I haven't bow hunted as of yet, but i plan to.
I was introduced to Archery a few years ago when i noticed we had a bow and asked my dad about it.. And he taught me how to shoot it. t'was hard at first but i got used to it. Now i'm shooting regulary, trying to up the ante and get my aim and accuracy good. And then i would like to go hunting!! I've started to get back into archery just lately and have started practicing nearly everyday.. (Improving noticably). Ahh.. Yes.. My recurve bow hasn't failed me yet. lol.
A little more about myself then.. Well, i just finished the HSC (Higher School Certificate) and i am now waiting for my results (which i can get on friday), i'm not going to use them.. lol Hoping to start a band and work as a bartender to get money while we get on our feet. That's the plan anyway. So yes.. All the time in the world for Archery at the moment..
Hm.. I've got no children (obviously) And i have a gorgeous girlfriend!! :D
At the moment i live in Sydney, but sometime next year i will probably be moving down to Victoria!
Hm and i think that is it!! HII!!

Hm.. I've got no children (obviously)
I was a Dad before my 18th birthday Jeremy...I'm now 26...so for some, not so obvious ;)
Welcome aboard, I hope you find this bunch to be helpful and friendly...oh, and don't let the big scary ones frighten you :D...you'll soon work out who they are, I don't need to name names, besides, they's not so big and scary... 8)
Luke ;)
hey all
i took up bowhunting about 8 or 9 years back because me dad forgot to renew gun licence, seen a BH mag in the news agents about six weeks later and now im hooked.
my first bow was a 30lb fiberglass recurve wich i shot a few rabbits with,
i then bought a old Darton explorer off my brothers mate for $50, i managed to shoot a few rabbits a goat and a fox, was a good little bow but it just wasnt very consistant so it got retired.
after that i got another bow from a local gun shop, not quite sure of the brand but it did me pretty good, i took 2 red deer, 2 goats a fox and loads of rabbits.
for the last 3 or 4 months ive been shooting a Reflex Gamegetter, its a top little bow that spits em out hard and super accurate, and is great for a bowhunter on a budget because its resonably priced at $395, so far ive shot 10 rabbits, 3 goats, 3 hares, 2 foxes and a feral cat and also 2 carp wiht it and hope to take a few red deer during the rut next year.
befor i finish i would like to congratulate Brad Smith on his new film Feral Game, its an awsome watch and i suggest anyone who has not yet seen it to order a copy as soon as possible because its worth every cent.
Good hunting to all 8)
Well since I'm new I better awaken this thread again.
G'day I'm Tristan - almost 21 (June 06) and I live on the Central coast and will do for four more years. Central Coast is an hour nth of Syd and hr sth of Newy (roughly).
I've applied for a bach Teach/ bach science (Chem/Bio) and that's why I'll be here for 4 years. I live in a small (60's built) house with my partner (read girlfriend) of almost 1.5years.
We're on a small 5acre property (rural setting) with afew rabbits and a fox that keeps taking the neighbours chickens. (Will post that small story a lil' later - its not much really). So anyways I have the space to shoot a bow and there is actually a range, Wyee Moonterra, range 5 mins up the road.
After trying to find an Archery dealer I stumbled upon one (Ralph) who is also the contact for Moonterra so - two birds with one stone and I'm now well on my way to joining the Archery/Bowhunter community.
Cheers -
Tristan
Well, I've been a member of the site for a while now but could never find this thread. So I searched for it and thought I'd add myself to the list.
My name's Jono, I'm 22 and I'm a technology studies teacher. I'm Puk's little brother and got into bowhunting through him. I haven't actually been out bowhunting yet because I live in Brisbane, don't know many other hunters personally and I only just bought my first bow the other day.
Those on here that I have already spoken to know that I'm keen for all the info i can cram into my head about the stalk and good form etc so that when i go out hunting i can discover for myself exactly how hard it is to actually put it all into practice. :)
Such a great thread, thought I'd make it a sticky...
BTW, I know where Hefty works...and lives
Don't worry Luke,
Hefty now knows where you live, and work, and grew up.........
And he has reinforcements.

BTW, they both work at the same place. Small world, yeah?
Me: I'm 29. Have been shooting a bow for 3 years. I shoot a Martin Jaguar set at 50#. Have been hunting for 2 1/2 years and have pulled in a few goats, a sow, a boar, a cat and a deer. Unlucky on a dog. Stalked him and thought he was dead. :? Little did I realise he was sleeping. So he ran (obviously) and so did his 2 sleeping mates that I didn't even see. Maybe another day.
Great to hear about all you guys. This is a great thread.
Cheers Jo
And yes I am a female. Not many female hunters these days. Should be more.

So new members please add to this thread with info of who you are and why you are ... i hope that makes sense
Cheers, Cam
I started bowhunting when I was 14 and have never looked back, I am now 32 (look at forum date before determining my age  )have 1 daughter who is 2yrs and a missus who acts about the the same age  My grandad/pop who was a professional dingo trapper for the west australian APB brought my first recurve for me on one of my many outback adventures with him and said there was plenty of game for me to hunt, well I have used bows ever since 8) I think I have been quite fortunate as one of my uncles was a ranger with CALM in west australia the whole time I was being raised with the bow and therefore let me have access to area's that where otherwise offlimits to all hunting :D I have been drilling on the mines for the last 12yrs,I live in the territory and never gonna leave, love fishing in my spare time if I'm not hunting. I LOVE a cold beer x(fill in da gap)(it's hot up here  ) and am likley to invite anyone(bowhunters  )to stay and hunt as long as they are not an IDIOT(there's lots of crocodiles  )

Hi everyone,
I have been lurking a bit so now is time to introduce myself. First get a couple of demographics out of the way. I live in the NE corner of NSW, am over 40 and under 6 ft short.
I have been shooting 3D for about three years and am now onto my third bow...a Switchback XT, camo, 60#, 27" draw.
I was never really interested in hunting before, then I discovered this forum and now my current mission in life is to go bow hunting..after all, why waste such a great bow. I love 3D but feel the courses could have a bit more of a physical and hunting challenge, especially when people shooting a 'hunting practice' game complain about bits of shrubbery in front of targets and having to walk over bits of uncleared ground that they might trip over...might as well go shoot in the park! My 3d archery aspirations is to be able to eventually be skilled enough to shoot a trad bow without sights.
I have never been bowhunting, but this year it is going to happen. I plan to start off simple with some rabbits, and I have a place to go where I can use a hide and pick off a pig (little one...or any one that gets close enough) when they come into a cattle feed lot at Narrabri to get the grain. I fell it is pretty safe with plenty of solid fences to jump if I miss and they get upset.
Hopefully between this forum and lots of observation whilst sitting around waiting for ferals I can begin to understand the art of bowhunting. I recognise a few of the forum regulars from 3d and later when i have enough hunting experience hope to get a few more tips from them and be able to contribute to the forum myself.
Besides Archery, I have a small family and large wife to support  I also do a bit of fishing (whatever kind is available at the time), have had previous fads of Racing sailing boats from 8 to 36 foot, dabbled in waterskiing, lots of scuba diving, plenty of beer drinking socialising and 3D archery..did I mention that before. :o
Usually I am pretty quiet with not a lot to say, let alone having to type it, so this is a record effort and mostly you will only see short posts from me.
Anyway, thanks for the chance to introduce myself. BTW, one of the graet things on this forum is the noticeable lack of SPELLING PUNCES/QUEENS who have nothing better to write than picking up on peoples spelling mistakes. Where I come from that is a clear case of lording it over others and a cover up for their only great skill...being able to read a dictionary...get a lofe!!
Gee I got my first soapbox bit in here as well. :D

If we do that then the punters complain that it is do difficult or dangerous to walk and shoot around the ranges. It is very difficult to appease the masses.

an obstacle course, combines with a sneaker range and pop up targets??? go join the army...
seriously with 3d courses if u r mainly interesting in hunting, just go there as practice and shoot as if u were hunting and dont worry about the ppl who just wish to do a target thing.the good thing about 3daaa is u can choose who u wish to shoot with....
and with trad, just do as i did,go and buy one and get into it,start close and work ur way back, ull be surprised how soon u can start grouping with out all the bells and whistles..
and if u hav any worries heaps of good guys and info on here..
so welcome and good luck with ur shooting.. :D

Gday all My name Is steve I live In a place called Leongatha in Victoria
Im 28 and have been hunting since I can remember But have only just taken up bow hunting In the last 18 months. So as you can guess I have alot to learn in getting arrows to fly straight!. Work wise well I was a digital printer in melbourne for about six years but had a gutfull of the city and realised I was missing out on to much fun In the country(hunting!)that is.Now I work for the local milk factory doing shift work not exactly a glory job but its all about lifestyle in the end (four days on two off four on four off etc)You can do alot with four days off in a row so I couldnt be happyier!.Back to hunting I mainly Chase the infamous Sambar In the high country and them cheeky little hog deer around the coast. Also been known to bowl over the odd fallow here and there but am yet to hit any with a bow. Give it time, alot of coaching and alot of luck I might get all three with a Red chucked in for good measure. Heres hoping anyway.I think it pays to be optmistic Can you tell?. One more thing I have a loverly girlfriend who is nearly five months pregnant!! and I just brought my first house!. hope to meet some keen hunters who can guide me through the joys of beginner bow hunting. thanks for reading hope your still awake after all that! take care I will be back steve.

Cool thread Cam.
Hi all, my name's Harry. I grew up near Stanthorpe which is nestled in the SE corner of Qld in an area the called the Granite Belt. My folks owned an orchard and most evenings at harvest time Dad and I would be out with a spot light and the old 12 gauge thinning out those airborne flea bags called Flying Foxes. Hunting was a way of life on the farm so it was only natural to gravitate towards bowhunting when guns became 'too easy'. My first bow was an Asian made 22# recurve which was quickly abandoned in favour of a 50# Bear Whitetail Hunter, not long after that the pursuit of poundage saw me the proud owner of a Darton SL50 Magnum. Mind you this all happened before I was 15. At 17 I'd had my fill of school and landed an apprenticeship in Toowoomba with Qld. Rail as a Blacksmith Welder, with the emphasis on welding. Bowhunting then took a back seat to girls, bikes and beer which eventually (20 years and one failed marriage later) gave way to one girl (current wife, Leanne), no bikes, less beer and two beautiful kids, my princess Libby, and my little man, Thomas.
At age 40 life sees me as a design draftsperson (how PC is that) with a renewed interest in the bow, I joined The Darling Downs Field Archers about two months ago and am loving it. My weapon of choice at present is a 20+ year old Browning Cam Master retro fitted with Bear Cams. Not all that fast but very pretty and sweet to shoot. Well that's the 10 cent tour of my life, there's heaps more to tell but how about we do that around a campfire one night while sharpening broadheads.
Cheers all
Harry

A big howdy to all
Im only new to Bowhunting and to this forum, but after many years of shooting with rifles and pistols i need a new outlook on hunting so here i am. I live in the Upper turon area of Sofala and love the hunt of rabbits, foxs and pigs in the area. I pick up a real cheap compound its a Proline force XL with a drop away arrow rest, some sort of a stabaliser on it and some brand of 3 pin sight but it does the job so far. After the shock of how well a compound does im hooked i just have to keep my wrist out of the way of the bow string when releasing got some good bruises..........lmao. So there u are thats a bit about me not much i know but its a start.
A huge Welcome to ya Wabs!
Might pay to invest in an armguard by the sounds of it ...

Hi all, heard about this site from some stories in Bowhunting downunder and thought I'd have a geez. Great to see aussie stuff, enough american influence and info as it is. Ive been shooting for around 4 years but have had no hunting success till only january this year [bagged a 30" billy]. I have 2 bows an old High Country, Pro Eliminator 75pound @ 30inches. Recently got a new Razor X, custom that pulls up at 90pound, only getting used to it so haven't gone over 75 yet. Dont hunt as much as I'd like to 3 kids and the wife slow me down a bit. Hope to gain some new properties and I'll write in with any success. Happy hunting...Troy

Hi,
I have just got back into archery in 2006 after about a 10 year lay off. I am like some of you and was given a fibreglass 25lb bow when a young tacker.
I have also done the rifle and pistol thing but after going out to a club here in Canberra to have a look, I got the bug again, retired the 1990 Hoyt bought a longbow and then went the whole hog a few months later and bought a 2006 Bowtech Allegience. damn its fast.
So far only had the chance to go bunny busting, but am looking at getting my BPC again and a NSW game council licence. Previously I have shot rabbits, foxes, and goats, 100 carp or so and a couple of stingrays.
I am keen to get back into all of the above mentioned species, plus I have missed a few pigs (last shot at a pig had to have been in 1991)
BTW I am 36 married 2 kids under 3 years of age so free time is a bit limited at the present.
Cheers,

Great to meet you all.
I am a fairly keen and fairly new bowhunter who was only introduced to hunting in general around 2yrs ago, mainly rifle or dogs & knives. I was bitten instantly by the hog bug. I went home and lernt to shoot the bow I once baught and let collect dust for many years. Some luck with work left me in some remote places in FNQ and plenty of time to learn about these critters. Well, now on down the track, the hunting bug aint leavin and things are looking bigger and better.

Gnome!
G/Day all only been on Bowhunters Group a few weeks.I've been in archery for just over 30 years. Started shooting with a recurve and sight Fita style. Soon worked out that I wasn't wound up tight enough to stop shooting promptly at 3.00 pm for Tea . Got referred to the Grange Bowhunters around late 1977 and then shot componds for 7 or 8 years then converted back to recurves .
In 1979 I got my first kill. a small boar and a rabbit later that year
In the 80's shot plenty of pigs goats rabbits .Early 90's stopped shooting target altogether and hunting even stopped for 2 years , 95 back into it and converted fully to SELFBOWS for targets and hunting - havent looked back. Dont hunt regular now due to a young family and responsibility to them taking all my spare cash but Im working on it- regards Perry
Hey,
My name is Steve, I'm 35yo, married with two kids, and I live in Brisbane.
I'm only new to bowhunting, never having actually hunted anything with a bow yet, except for a couple of hopelessly optimistic forays after rabbits with a 35lb fibreglass recurve back in my mid-teens.
Since then work has been very busy, and I've never had the time or the contacts to get up to anything. I have a good friend who's into all kinds of hunting, and he's always asking me to come. These days, when he's after pigs down this way, he really doesn't bother with a gun, instead preferring to use his dogs, and that's been a lot of fun. He's also a keen bowhunter, having been to the Cape on a number of occasions, and he recently acquired a second-hand bow for nothing, which he kindly gave to me.
It's a Browning Summit II, which I've set at about 62lb, and he also gave me a Toxonics four pin sight, which I've now set up with a peep and a drop-away rest. I know it's probably not on par with the latest and greatest on the market, but with my expertise it should do the job nicely, and since it also came with a soft case, seven alloy arrows, nine good two-blade broadheads, and a heap of field tips and blunts, I think it was an excellent score.
I've been sighting it in in the backyard on a target made up of some bales, and it's shooting pretty well. Can anyone give me the drum on whether it's also worth getting a stabiliser, and if so, how much I can expect to pay for a reasonable one? Also, I've read the write-up on the Tunerz limbsavers. Are they any good, and how much are they?
I'm looking forward to getting into a bit of hunting. My hours have recently changed to give me more weekends off, which works out better when it comes to getting together with mates and heading out into the bush. I hope to take a trip up to Charters Towers later next year, but hoping to get in quite a few trips down the South East corner and in Northern NSW before then.
Enjoying the forum; it's a wealth of knowledge. It's all a bit daunting to a newbie, but I've also found that bowhunters are generally a very friendly bunch.
Take care,
Steve

Well I am an American to start with. And for work I have done sheet meatel roofing, Worked for the US Forest Service and as a home builder , plumber, building materials delivery driver and most recently an over the road truck driver. I was in the US Navy from 92 to96 as a Combat engineer . I have been married for about 11 years and have 3 kids two dogs a cat and six snakes. My archery addiction started when I was a kid when I bent a stick and used my Moms cloths line as a string. I killed my first animal (a black bear) when I was 16 and have been hooked ever since. I currently help supervise archery lessons at my Church. At this time I am actively trying to move to your beautiful country. I at least hope to visit and hunt there verry soon.

Hi Guys
My name is James I am 27 years old. I live in Wallsend NSW which is near Newcastle. I have been married for 4 & 1/2 years, no kids :D . I am currently doing a mechanical engineering traineeship which incorporates NDT (non-destructive testing). Have been hunting most for most of my life but only the past 12 months with the bow. I am shooting a Bear Jennings Buck Master 2000. Have not taken a animal with the bow yet :( still practicing but finding it really hard to get onto places to hunt. I have access to one property but there is no game on it. :(
My other interest is breeding Gouldian Finches and fishing but fishing has kind of gone cold since getting the bow. Here is a picture of some of my finches that I have bred.

Gday from a newbie, just joined the site after spending a week or so checkin out your forms.
My name is Darren, I live in Mackay QLD. My youngest son Keith and myself have decided to take up the sport of bow hunting together. The first step was to cruz the net looking for information and we stumbled across your site and love it.
I have shot plenty of pigs, goats ect with guns but never actually picked up a bow untill a few weeks ago. I havent owned a gun for over 10 years or hunted in that time.
The main reason for wanting to get back into it was to spend some quality time with the lad and to get him back into the real world and away from his flamin computer games ect... Lure fishing has filled the gap since my last shot.
I shot roos and pigs full time for 18 months around Goondiwindi,Thallon untill the twins were born and the missus said i had to go get a real job  . Prior to the full time shooting i worked on properties in the area for 12 years as a farm hand and shot for extra pocket money. Great life style just not enough money to keep me there.
Found the real job the missus wanted me to get in Kunnunurra WA in the Ord River irrigation area. Beautiful area pitty my new boss was a cranky bugga. Lasted 16 months befor returning to good ole QLD.
Stoped over in Gladstone to say gday to my sister and left around 6 years later with a Trade paper saying I was a tradesman Fitter/Machinest. Got lucky and picked up an Adult apprenticehip. Actully bluffed my way into it. Worked in Mt Isa untill this job came up here and iv been in Mackay since 2003. Hope that wasnt too much boring info.
Before deciding to start bow hunting i took some time to see if i could find a few properties to hunt on before investing in a couple of bows. No dramers with a couple of my old roo shooting propertie owners giving me access, but thats a full days drive from here. Snooped around asked heaps of questions and scored a place 40min west of here with pigs on it to chase.
Joined a new Club here on Saturday to learn the do's and donts and hopefully every thing falls into place from here on in. I look forward to pickin all ya brains with some really stupid questions in the future. Hope you can bear with me till im up to speed.

Thanks for the welcome XTfreak and Hood. For his first bow Keith chose a PerfectLine compound. With only one outlet we are limited to choice a little. I could have picked up something different on line but Id rather deal with a local outlet for service and warranty issues if they arrise. Im getting a Martin Saber Camo in to try out. Going through this site there are just as many people who love Martin as hate them. I have a choice of Martin, Brownning and Fred Bear and a couple of cheaper type brands chinese made ect.... to choose from. With out knowing anything about each brand other then what i can find on the net and by talking to my local dealer Iv taken a punt on the Martin.
Keith picked his up on friday after school and i will have to wait 10 days or so untill the martin arives. He had a Martin in store that I looked at but it was already sold. A pic of Keiths compound. Sticker was cut from one of our work promos.

G-day Antarcher, the barra was 1150mm and we could only guess her weight to be around 60lb as the scales we had max'd out at 50. My son is as keen as to bust a pig but Iv told him he has to practice till he hits the sweet spot consistantly on his targets as he ows it to the animals to put them away as cleanly as possible. I susspect his nerves will have him as jumpy as buggery on his first stalk so not sure how to teach him to be calm. I guess Ill just have to talk him through it. Mind you its been a long time since Iv snuck up on something that has the abillaty to make short work of my legs on the way past. So my nerves might need some tuneing up as well. Iv had several close calls with pigs while dogging them with the worst one resulting in a trip to hospital. The scar on my leg is a reminder to respect the speed and power of these animals. Didnt put me off chasing the buggers though. But with 10 or so years out of the game and a whole new approach to hunting them it will be an interesting ride of experiences and expectations. you dont have to get any where near as close to them whith a rifle when stalking and there is no skill required by the hunter in finding them when you use dogs. They do all the leg work for you.
Well time to head off to work for the night.

That's great stuff Darren. The only way to calm them nerves is to hunt. Once he gets one he will know what it's all about. Though I still get nervous every time I get the chance to draw. That's the beauty of the bow.

Hey guys, guess I better introduce myself.
Name's Jack, I'm currently doing Year 12 down here in Adelaide. This has me pretty wrapped at the moment, but I'm lucky with my Dad loving the sea and boats hence living by the beach, and my Mum loving the countryside so we have a little hobby farm in the Adelaide Hills in a little valley, the property itself is almost a miniature valley inside of that, only 10 and a half acres but it has lots of 'character' I guess, basically the whole thing is up or down hill, very fertile so lots of trees, pretty much cut off from everything which makes it a nice escape for the weekend.
I use my compound bow shooting uphill usually at about 25 metres at a fairly steep angle uphill which I can find a bit hard, especially because it's almost never wind free and uphill seems to be quite a bit harder. I might want to set my range loopy things as well. My main love up there is fishing though, we have two dams, one is pretty much right above the other (hilly ground remember), I can sit out there either on my little boat or stand at the back lure fishing for hours, it's a nice little spot surrounded on one side by the rise up to our deck and house, the other side is a steep rise covered in trees, the other side with one of Mum's little vege gardens, and the other with the hill covered in apple trees heading down to the other dam. The clouds move like rockets too because it's so high up, after doing that all day there's nothing better than sitting on the deck smoking my freshly caught trout and watching the sun go down. It really is my soft spot as you can tell; after being at school all week, doing homework all night and not getting enough sleep, it's a godsend :P
At some stage I wouldn't mind getting a bowfishing rig set up, at the very least it could save me running up hill to dig my arrows out every time I target shot  Might have to nick a how to on making a fish trap from you guys...
Other than that, next year when I finish school I'm taking a gap year and hoping to go travelling around the world a bit, and at some stage go around australia perhaps, or at least disappear into the bush for a week or two; some time I wouldn't mind trying a hunt I guess.
Other than that, bows just generally fascinate me
The forum and you lot have been great so far. As you might notice I have a tendency to post an essay every time I write

Wow, our neighbours up there live in stirling most of the time, it's not more than perhaps 10 or 15 minutes away from our place. You're right, it's a great spot, it's a lot like the little valley we're in but with more houses and better organised hehe, not to mention the slope's a bit easier on the legs.

Hi guys, well i was shooting (rifle) about a month ago and thought to myself there isnt much of a challange blasting away with a 243 anymore, so i decided to give this bow hunting ago. not knowing a thing about bows, did a bit of research and two weeks later a new 60# tomkat was on my door(hope i made a good choice). So now im learning to use it, its very hard to get infomation and advice living in a very remote area like Marble bar.I work in the mining industry as a boilermaker on a 2 &1 roster (2weeks on 1 week off). On my week off i enjoy fishing, shooting and now attempting to stick arrows in things. Also i do a bit of work on a station, which by chance has large numbers of pigs, camels, donkeys wild dogs and is big enough to get lost on (357300 hectare). I have also found you guys, your forum very helpful and look forward to getting some more advice from you blokes.

Well lets see im 34 just about to get married (next month on the 14th) & we have 1 child. Im a carpenter by trade but dont do it any more , i also worked in the meat industry for a few years but now i work at the grain silos. This is where i learnt the fine art of eradicating some of our less loved wildlife species such as pigeons, cats , foxes & the odd rabbit. So now im ready to graduate to larger game!! Ive only been shooting a bow for about a year & a half and i cant put it down. IT all started one day when we took our daughter to greenhills adventure park south of adelaide where they had a small archery range & my partner couldnt drag me away from the bows!!! So thats pretty much it in a nut shell, if anyone wants to know more just ask cheers.
G'Day All
I an re entering the bowhunting sceen after a few years lay off due to work pressures. Change of job = more time to myself = back into hunting.
I first picked up a bow in 1977 and mainly hunted rabbits in central NSW but have been fortunate to have traveled around most of the country and taken a good variety of ferals.
I use both compound and longbow, depending on my mood and how much practice I can get in before a hunt (I need more with the LB). My favorite quarry is Boars but I'd love to take a Buff one day.
I mainly hunt solo, because most of my mates are rifle hunters, although my youngest son has also regained some enthusiasm and wants to get back into it.

Hi all
My name is Adam (22). i recently finished uni (Bachelor of Environmental Science) and i work with QPWS out at Currawinya National Park in Far south western qld as a parks ranger. I havent had the chance to do a lot of hunting, yet. I got into bowhunting because (i feel) it takes more skill to stalk an animal, get within shot distance and let an arrow rip than it does to chase an animal down and blast it with a shotgun. I got nothing against shooters, ill just stick to my bow.

Hi guys, I'm Mike from Kalgoorlie. I moved to Kal three years ago from NZ to work as a geo. I hunted regularly in NZ with a rifle and shotgun but didn't see the point in getting a firearms licence in WA as I was mainly into gamebird and deer hunting. I got a bow at the start of the year (an old pearson spoiler off ebay) and have been practicing regularly. I havn't been out hunting yet or even approched anyone about property access but will get into it as soon as I find time. I also intend to have a crack at some deer in NZ at some point. If anyone round Kal wants to catch up I'd be keen as everything I've learnt about the sport and hunting in OZ has come from various websites.

Hi all,
my second post, love the forum, it is very addictive. It is so good to find people with a love of bowhunting, I don't know anyone here in Moree, as there is no archery club. Time and money are short as well (wife expecting first baby and job is demanding), so hunting trips are few and far between. Nailed my first pig 6 weeks ago, and been twice since then with no luck. If there is anyone else close by, please feel free to pm me for a hunt.
Happy hunting,
Steve.
Gday,
My name is Mic and I reside northwest of Brissy in a town (if you call it that) called Closeburn. I go between fixin mowers, assisting a Pro photographer and doing local property maintainance. Mainly hunt feral dogs and am trying for some of the local deer, with no luck as yet. Other interests are hiking, fishing, shooting and adding new dents to my landcruiser:confused:.
Great looking sight and I hope to contribute abit and learn heaps

My 15yr old son Tim & I are new to Bow Hunting, I'm 43 and till I was 15 I used to poke around the scrub with a recurve, from memory I managed 2 cats and some rabbits, then the rifles won out. Still use them for work and on the farm. Archery is another one of those great father/son activities (daughter if I had one) there's plenty of opportunity for planning, tuning, modifying, practise and finaly hunting together, a bit different to, "Son you grab the vehicle and spotty, I'll get the rifle and off we go.
We're on a 650acre block 15ks nth of Glen Innes, running cattle and Boer Goats, Crust is as a Ranger with the Rural Lands Protection Board, suits me, the board covers a large are from the QLD border down to Inverell and across to Ebor so it gets me out in the bush most days, still way to much office time.
We do a bit of fishing & canoeing, paddle a canadian and 2 decked out fishing yaks, wouldn't mind combining camping, fishing and canoeing on a trip.
I shoot a Darton Tempest, the young bloke picked up a Bowtech Allegience this week, can't see me getting much farm work out of him this weekend.
Look forward to being a member of the forum, learn't plenty from previous posts, thanks guys......Rob

g'day im jonathon hughes my mates call me hughesy or jono and when im in trouble im "JONATHON MICHAEL HUGHES!" :D, i am 15... i first started rifle shooting with my dad from an age of 7 years and when i got a bit older i wanted a gun but dad said not till im 16, so i went for the closest legal thing which was the bow. I saved up and then spent money and then saved up again till i eventually got one, ive been shooting bows for about a year and a half now and am injoying it more than i expected. I am an out door kid so im pretty much out with the bow anytime possible, ive shot a mixture of game which has been had work but i guess you've just gotta keep at it :), i hope to continue hunting till i cant pull the string back, but that all depends wether my knee's hold up :(, i live in south australia (adelaide hills) where game and properties are limited, hoping to head up to nsw soon to get some properties, im still after my first goat and pig, soo there next on my list ;), i soon hope to go hunting with some fellow members off this site and meet some new people,
regards jono hughes
G'day,
Names Glen, few of the close people around me know me as Neix, Dont ask why
17 Years of age, Nearly finished my apprentiship by trade as a Bricklayer,
Get out as much as i can with the bow, but it does tease me when it sits in my views while im in side on some days.
I got into archery about.... 3 years ago,
But only converted to hunting about 1 year ago.
I started off with a cheap 150$ Compound bow Hoyt Rebel XT,
Which then i sold for 150$ and saved up and bought my self my Reflex Big Horn Hunter 2007 Model, which im still pleased with, i'm looking at changing to a new bow in the near future =]
If anyone would like to go for a hunt and is in Melbourne area, Give me PM and we can organise something, I've aquired a few properties :)

G'day. My name's clint, 30, wife and 2 girls under 4. Construction supervisor for the last 3 years (carpenter for the 10yrs prior) until i quit a couple of months ago to look for a new career and i'm still looking.
Started hunting unsuccessfully at about 12 when i saved up for a 60lb martin lynx magnum, but growing up in suburbia with no way of getting to hunting areas by myself i drifted out of it a few years later.
In 2006 my brother bought a reflex gamegetter out of the blue and sucked me back in. Before long i found myself wanting a new bow and ended up with the 70lb x force. We hunt on a private property near goulburn(usually making the trek down for half a day every few weeks) but there is only rabbits and foxes in the area, and do the odd trip into the state forests for the bigger pests.
Well i suppose i better make a formal introduction.
Im Robbie, im almost 33 years old and live in Wangaratta, in NE victoria. Im a very keen fisherman and photographer. I work full time at the local safeway store, where with my unshaven face, and rough nature, i really dont fit in!!!
Ive always wanted to try bowhunting, but never really got around to doing it. Then a couple of weeks ago, i bought myself a 60-70pound bow to play with, and have hardly put it down since.
I havnt killed anything yet, but ive frightened the crap out of a few rabbits.
I come from a shooting background, and have shot hundreds of rabbits, but shooting them with a gun just isnt on the same level as watching your arrow head straight for them.
Its amazing what can go through your mind in that short time from when you fire the arrow, to when it arrives at the rabbit. (was gonna say hits the rabbit...but havnt seen that happen yet).
Anyhow, im totally addicted, and cant wait until i kill that first rabbit.
One day, when i feel im improving well, i plan to head north up into central NSW and hunt down a large billy goat.
G'day Lads'
Shot my first arrow with a Growler sept07. Since passed the growler to my son and bought a X-Force 60#. Hunt about every 4 to 6 weeks. Started on goats and how much fun is that!! Next hunt we go on a pig search. Done some big carp shooting-loads of fun. Hard to work while thinking about hunting. When I'm not hunting I'm in A\C Management in Bankstown (Sydney). Married with 4 adult kids, one G\child and one coming. Thanks for askin.

Hi Guys
I'm jason i did a lot of trapping ferreting and shooting since the age of about 10 when i lived in Cootamundra as both grandparents owned big farms. I wanted to get a slug gun of my own instead of using my cousins all the time and all was going to plan until my cousin shot me at point blank and i shot him back as he was running away. When i left coota lost the chance to get out there until about a year ago i came across a bow hunting forum and thought that looks fun. So i did a web search for archery in Geelong, found 3 clubs called them all only 1 called back and that was Geelong Trophy Bowhunters. Went down to indoor one night and shot a recurve and straight away i was hooked 2 wks later i had my first bow. Got my second bow 5 months ago and i shot my first rabbit a couple of days ago. I am hooked, i am now a member of 2 clubs in Geelong and practise about 3 to 4 times a week. 1 yr on i am shooting in the 1400's for ABA 2 day shoots and am happiest when i have the bow in my hand.

GDay all from T.B.G.A.
Like to say hello to you all, and what a great comradery you have on this site. I have posted before but it has been some time since I said hi, as I have just moved back to civilisation. At 28years young I have grown up in far north QLD ranging from Cairns to Cooktown I have just spent a year in Tully which was a great oportunity to meet some great folks at the Tully Bow Hunters. I try to tramp my bow through the bush as much as possible and have managed to take a few species, however nothing to brag about. I love being in the bush and need regular time round a campfire to keep my sanity.
Gday T.B.G.A,
Ive been lucky bugger as a kid with doin a heap of travelling through out OZ and the world and alot of it trekking around the country side either on foot or in 4wds and camping out where ever i could.
Joined the scouts and did the whole venturers and rovers thing but then got into 4wding and comps etc. a mate of mine who i have done abit of 4wding and camping with introduced me to archery with his RH long bow even tho i am LH ha ha now there is no looking back.
I have been bow hunting for about all of a couple of months now i recon ha ha ha..... had a big quiet stint since i was in rovers many years ago (10+), Havent been out on a big hunt as yet but have done a few small ones locally on the main land (Townsville) I have been frequently down the indoor archery centre brushing up on my technique and aim, and i gotta say i still got what it takes ha ha i had to laugh even shooting with no sight! but i am extremely keen to get out and about and if any local lads or ladies knows of or is heading out for hunt or 2 let me know, i need as much experience as i can get.... i am gonna hook up with bowmancam here on the island some time and just keep practising on tagets and honing my skills......
Id just like to say a big thanks to D'arcy Clayton for setting my bow up for me and setting me on the right track and its great to see even blokes that stand on the wrong side of the bow get looked after ha ha ... cheers mate! im sure im gonna get years of enjoyment outer this bow.
like stray jay said and are my thoughts exactly "I love being in the bush and need regular time round a campfire to keep my sanity, i cant get enough of it!" looking forward to my very 1st pig in the near future
cheers

Hey Guys,
Im 22 yrs old and live in Wingham on the Mid North Coast. Had a bow since I was 12 and was shooter of the year for 3daaa in 2000. Been a real estate agent at L.J Hooker for about 2 years and grew up on a 1000 head piggery (thats why i shoot them, cause i hate them). Hunt mainly around the Walcha, Tamworth area but venture out west as often as possible in the warmer months. Currently engaged, to a great chick who also goes hunting with me (also a chearleader, great combination, thats why I kept her).
Thanks for getting to know a bit about me!!:)

G'day Bruce is my name I'm 38 I live in Brisbane and I work as a child psychologist. I love the water, sailing, diving, canoeing and fishing. I'm a weekend Dad and have a beautiful 6 yo daughter. Like a lot of blokes on here I was given a small poundage recurve as a kid and I had a blast with that. My bro and I used to run around like mad things camo'd up trying to knock over rabbits in primary school. I had an air rifle and without much guidance used to knock over everything that had wings back then as well. I took up archery again last Xmas with the view to getting into bowhunting. I live in the city so I don't get out that much, having said that I've put some goat in the freezer (with the help of a master bowhunter) and suffered buck fever and missed a Fallow doe at 10m....not happy that I missed, very happy that I managed to get that close. I've been out probably another 6 times mostly looking for deer and goats. I think I may have found a bloke who'll let me come and hunt on his property. He's a really cool guy and likes hunting so I may have scored a hunting buddy as well. I managed to get an old school mate that I've known for 20yrs into it and he's coming up for a hunting trip this week and we're off for 3 days in the bush. I recently went to the ADA hunter education weekend held at Ballandean. While 99% of the people there were gun toting deer hunters the ethics component of the weekend was excellent. Along with the rest of t
