View Full Version : Language on the Site

There has been a lot said in the past about bad language on the site mainly about the F word even when it is spelt with xx in the middle of it, it has been pointed out that the meaning is still the same. This morning I have read a post by the same person who in the past has objected to this word being used using this word themselves.
Last night I edited a post by Axe and he got a bit upset about it and I don't blame him, what I edited out of his post was no where near as bad as the couple of post I read thismorning. I noticed the post have been cleaned up since then.
I don't think it matters who you are we all have a responsibility to bowhunting and especially the new people coming through. It would be a shame to think that some people would be put off the site by some of the things that are said and language used...Glenn...

Glenn,

I have always felt that would should keep the bad languague out.

I need to spend some time programming the automatic word lock out, still I shouldnt have to.

No worries Adam, wasn't trying to point the finger at anybody, I just felt like a bit of a dill. I know we can all get a little stressed sometimes and I know I lost it myself over at OZBOW not long ago...Glenn...

No worries Glenn I just thought I would apolagize as I can see wrong in my ways. I don't mind being pulled inline when I step out.

I'm all for no swearing on the site, I was just a bit hyped up yesterday for no good reason.

mate i think what adam and glenn are getting at here is that this site can be viewed by anyone. sure - i swear when i talk to my mates, i do it all the time, but we should treat this forum as public (which it is of course). therefore i guess if you would not say it in front of your mother, grandson, nefew etc. - dont say it on here. anyway with intelligent wording we should still be able to get our point across - whatever it is.

Adam

As you mentioned you apparently only developed manners in the passed 24 Hours,Look if we are ever going to get along- i wish you would think before you say some things. i dont look for fights but if someone challenges me i will bite-theres a few times when you have commented on posts i have written about Crossbows and you dont like them fair enough :!: remember for a minute for every action there is a re-action..
and remember how many times we have all had to fight for a view we
believed in.

No offence taken.. but nearly everyone has been guilty of language on this site, its just when people start preaching that have done it them selves i get a bit whoops nearly( annoyed)you are probably one of the few, and mate doesnt worry me as i use the word loosely as well. aswell as dude much to some peoples dislike

yeh thats another good point mate and also i should say that yes, i am another one of the guilty people who have done it too - in the past. now that the issue is raised i can see glenns point in making this thread and i will try to avoid doing it in the future. personally i wish it was ok to swear freely on this site (and others) but the fact that its public overrules this, as it might just be another round of ammo to the antis as they could say we're just a bunch of uncooth rednecks with no dignity. darn those rascally anti's

I object to censorship of most any kind and i am a bit of a foul mouth.

I personaly see no problem with cussing (i do it all the time)

But this dosent meen i wont adhere to the rules!

Because i intend to follow the rules.

As I said I censored his post Axe was rightly not happy censoring one post and not another. Since then I have had some P.M.s with Axe and everything was sorted out. I only put this post up because thought I owed Axe that much hoping that would be the end of it.
Just think of bad language this way Demitri, if a young person gets on this site and reads bad lauguage on this site to me it's no different to going into someones home and using bad language while children are present, is that acceptable behaviour, it isin't for me.
If anyone came into my home and used bad language infront my family I wouldnt be too impressed and I don't think very many people would either. Anyway lets just let this post end here, I did what I thought I had to do as a fair go...Glenn...

Demitri

quite frankly it dosent bother me and its nothing ive not heard.

But if there are YOUNG children browsing the site keep it clean eh!

Glenn
01-07-05, 01:26 PM
Bad launguage doesen't bother me either, being in the building trade all of my life it is just part of the culture as it is in Australia but there is no need for it in a public place...Glenn...

Well, take away the direction at you Val and Brian's post has some points.

This is a public forum and despite that fact that most of us are guilty of using bad language it doesnt hurt to remind each other that this is a bublic forum

To illustrate, I have recieved emails from members of the Wildlife society (same day shooting natives was raised). I have also recieved emails from parents about what thier children were seeing, some not so crash photos we had posted.

Once there was a post about an incident involving a bow and a family member of the person in question contacted me to point out our information was incorrect and that they would take legal action should I not remove it.

I bring those up to illiustrate that it is not just those that post on here that read what gets said.

I am no Saint and I am definately not preaching just asking that we not use certain words.

Val, I dont ever remember reading a four letter word in one of your posts

Demitri

i agree with you barry, but do you ever wonder what happened to free speach?

Im not challinging you i dont mind keeping it clean and i understand why but do you ever ask yourself stuff like this, i do all the time. just a question.

Barry

Demitri, I think we have demonstrated very well the right of free speech on this forum lately.

Free speech is about the right to express a view point, to speak up about opinions or to question the status quo. None of those things are in question here.

In my experience a point can be made more effectively using composed and rational wording rather than with four letter expletives.

Sure I swear, when I'm with my mates or in the right situation but theres a right time and place for everything.
